After participating in the program, my confidence increased so much that I felt I had changed a lot. And when I saw myself acting and speaking without much hesitation, I thought, "Oh, it''s okay to act and speak like this. I should have lived like this earlier."

I wanted to go abroad and gain diverse experiences following my older brother''s recommendation!

Hello! I am 23 years old.

I graduated from university this year and was at a loss about what to do next.ThenIn the meantime, my older brother had already taken a gap year and recommended it to me. I thought that gaining various experiences abroad would help me more than spending time aimlessly in Korea, so I chose a gap year.

After deciding to take a gap year, I wondered, "Is this the right choice?" Because I chose a gap year to escape reality, I lacked confidence in my decision. Still, since my brother had experienced a gap year first, I prepared for mine thinking, "He did it, so surely I can too."

Before leaving for my gap year, my personal resolution was "Just Do It!", and I tried to stick to that decision throughout the gap year! :)

For Ha Sumin, who wanted to turn meaningless time into varied experiences, through distinctive consulting she decided on a project with a professional consultant and resolved to start a gap year.If you dream of a new start but find it hard to begin alone, I strongly recommend 1:1 consulting with a gap year specialist!

The sure way to change your life: gap year 1:1 consulting

I wanted to prove that I could do well on my own without anyone''s help.

I lacked confidence in myself, so I wasn''t sure what I truly wanted, and I didn''t have the confidence to act on or say what I wanted.

I had compared myself to my older brother since childhood, but after graduating from university I wanted to become completely independent from my brother and parents. So through this gap year I wanted to prove that I too could manage well without anyone''s help.

As my understanding of others broadened, I was able to see myself as I truly am.

For three months, I was able to see myself as I am.When I thought about how I could see myself as I am in such a short time, By making friends from other countries and broadening my understanding of others, I felt I was able to express behaviors or words I had previously hidden a bit more easily.

At first, I remember it was hard to adapt and I wanted to make friends but didn''t know how to approach them, which was mentally difficult. I decided to talk about this concern to the people I saw most often, so I opened up to my one-on-one teachers. The teachers really listened to my concerns and introduced me to other students in their classes. Thanks to the teachers'' help, I was able to make a variety of friends!

I became more positive and my confidence increased greatly.

Before participating in the program, I lacked confidence and often censored myself. After participating in the program, my confidence increased so much that I could feel how much I had changed. And when I saw myself acting and speaking without overthinking, I thought, "Oh, it''s okay to act and speak like this. I should''ve lived like this sooner."

To those hesitating about taking a gap year: Cebu has many things to do, so instead of studying English intensively, it''s better to join the program with the mindset of learning English to communicate with people from other countries!

Philippine Cebu language study — here''s my daily routine!

In the morning I would wake up, have breakfast in the dining hall, and go to the class that starts at 8, but I always woke up late and hardly ate breakfast (haha). By the way, breakfast time is from 7 to 8! After that I attended the remaining classes and had self-study time, during which I sometimes rested in my room.

After morning classes finished, it was lunchtime so I went to the dining hall on the 6th floor to eat. If you go even a little late you''ll have to stand in line, so I recommend going to the dining hall right when class ends. The menu includes Korean and Japanese dishes and is fairly varied. After lunch, the afternoon classes were the same as the morning. After the last class I rested in my room; for dinner I sometimes ate in the dining hall and sometimes ate out with friends. In the evenings I had plenty of time, so I would go to the library or chat with my roommate. Looking back now, I think I spent my days quite meaningfully! :)

My tips for preparing for a Cebu language-study gap year!

I think I asked my older brother a lot of things! I asked what I would need and what inconveniences there would be living locally, but it didn''t really help that much (haha). When preparing to leave, I packed mainly the basics—like a passport, dollars to exchange, a SIM or eSIM, and emergency medicine—as if going on an overseas trip, and then packed short-sleeve T-shirts and a long-sleeve jacket. And even if you forget something, most things are available in Cebu, so it''s fine to buy them there!

I also recommend traveling to Bohol! Bohol was so great. I went on a 1-night, 2-day trip on a weekday: on the first day I did a city tour, and on the second day I booked an island-hopping tour where I saw dolphins and turtles. I highly recommend the island-hopping tour in Bohol!

My Philippine Cebu language-study gap year was:

    Experience★★★★★

:An opportunity to communicate with friends from other countries!

    Learning★★★★

: At the academy I learned English, I learned Japanese from Japanese friends, and I learned Vietnamese from a Vietnamese friend. Triple the learning!!!

    Environment★★★

: It was great that there was a Korean supermarket and a Korean restaurant nearby.

    Safety★★★★

: It was safe as long as you didn''t walk around alone at night.

    Leisure ★★★★★

: It was convenient. It was a 5-minute walk from the restaurant to the academy.
