Actually, I joined the gap year project really focused on ''medical'' volunteering, and what I remember most is becoming close to and communicating with local students, doctors, physical therapists, and nurses. Everyone was so, so kind.

    # I wanted to put the knowledge I learned in the nursing department to use through medical volunteering in Ho Chi Minh.

Hello! I''m a 23-year-old nursing student. I just finished my third year and recently, exhausted from studying nursing and dealing with people, I decided to take a leave of absence.I wanted to use the remaining time entirely for myself and vowed to accomplish the things I had wanted to try, one by one.

I had always wanted to try volunteering abroad, so after researching opportunities I chose medical volunteering in Ho Chi Minh where I could make use of my major..I was a little worried because it was a plan to stay abroad for quite a long time, but,Through the gap year project, I was truly happy to spend a precious time meeting many wonderful people in a place where I knew no one and to heal.

*Nursing student Park Sera wanted to fill her leave of absence with meaningful experiences. Therefore, we recommended the Vietnam medical volunteering program, which offers a positive environment and the chance to take on new challenges! Not sure where or how to start a new challenge and want a tailored plan? We highly recommend one-on-one consulting with a gap year specialist!

    # I wanted to learn the differences between Vietnamese and Korean hospitals and the health-related environment.

This gap year goal was simple but clear!

As a nursing student, I wanted to directly apply what I learned through hospital volunteer work. I also wanted to learn the differences between Vietnamese and Korean hospitals and health-related environments. :)

    # I was able to treat patients directly and carry out hospital practicums in a comfortable atmosphere.

The part I was most looking forward to in this gap year was the hospital practicum!I wanted to see, feel, and learn about Vietnam''s medical system firsthand.During the volunteer schedule, there were experiences of following nurses and learning, like hospital practicum in Korea,Koreain Korea the practicum can feel suffocating and stifling, whereas in Vietnam it felt much more relaxed, like a hospital tour. Also, I could perform hands-on practice such as disinfecting patients and connecting injections, so it was truly meaningful and new. :)

    # Thanks to the warm kindness of Vietnamese people, I was able to communicate with a light heart.

Actually, I participated in the gap year project with a real focus on ''medical'' volunteering,What I remember most is getting close to and communicating with local students, doctors, physiotherapists, and nurses. Everyone was so, so kind. They recommended things to experience in Vietnam and even gave me gifts!

Of course there were difficulties due to language barriers, but there were people who spoke English well and students who liked K-pop, so it wasn''t a big problem. When communication was difficult, we tried to resolve it by talking through a translator.Originally I was hesitant to talk to foreigners because of my introverted personality and limited English, but now I think I can communicate more freely.

Oh! One thing I want to say: You have to take part in a talent show every Monday! Don''t feel too pressured; it would be great if you come with a joyful mindset, thinking of it as a month-long free trip. Make happy memories with the warm Vietnamese people!

    # Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Medical Volunteering — here''s my daily routine!

My day flowed according to the hospital schedule! There were new things every day, but I think I tried to be devoted to the hospital volunteering!

    7:00: Breakfast at the restaurant

7:20: Meet the coordinator at the school playground

    7:30: Depart for the hospital

8:00: Arrive at the hospital and change clothes (wear scrubs)

8:10: Move to the assigned department following the coordinator''s guidance

10:30 - 11:00: After finishing department duties, change clothes and return to the accommodation to rest

13:20: Meet the coordinator at the school playground

    13:30: Depart for the hospital

14:00: Change clothes and move to the assigned department under the coordinator''s guidance

15:30 - 16:00: After duties end, change clothes and return to the accommodation

If you refer to the schedule above, you''ll be able to understand how hospital volunteering in Vietnam proceeds! I hope you all have a fulfilling and meaningful day too!

    # My tips for preparing a Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam medical volunteering gap year!

I think I prepared for the gap year by referring to gap year review materials and YouTube videos about living in Vietnam for a month!

To create your own Vietnam travel route, it''s best to ask local friends. If you make good use of bus apps, you can choose convenient transportation. Using a sleeping bus or train instead of accommodation is also a good option. In Vietnam, you can use excellent accommodations very cheaply, so I also recommend enjoying a hotel staycation.

If you like surfing, I highly recommend trying it in Mui Ne or Vung Tau! I looked up nearby surf schools on Google Maps and contacted them directly via Instagram or phone before going. They sometimes give discounts, so keep that in mind!
