-Study English enjoyably without stress — that''s it. Yoo So-young, Gap Year Participant / 12-week gap year |
I wanted to be someone who can express themselves.

Hello! I''m Yoo So-young. I''m 25 years old, and I have completed university and am taking a gap year.^^
Before starting this project, I had a one-on-one consultation, and the director recommended this program so I started. AndI always wanted to go abroad, but I couldn''t summon the courage because I was worried about my English skills; I chose this project because I could also learn English.
I wasn''t particularly worried about preparations before leaving. In this regard,I am grateful to Korea Gap Year. They provided information about the country and the items needed, and I prepared them one by one based on that. And whenever I thought of something I needed, I wrote it down in a notepad and prepared it.
The goal of this gap year: during the one-on-one consultation I realized I didn''t know myself very well. So I decided to take time to get to know myself. And I wanted to become someone who can express themselves.
I hope you enjoy the country, the environment, and the friends!!

You wake up in the morning and attend classes. There are 1:1 sessions, small-group, and large-group classes. Classes run until 5, and after that it''s free time. You can do homework, go out with friends, or chat. And weekends are also free time, so we used to travel.
It would be good to study a bit of English before joining the project. And some people were too stressed by studying,Of course you should study, but since we''ve left for a gap year, I hope you take it a bit easy and enjoy the country, the environment, and the friends!!

The phrase I heard most when I got there was ''You''re young!'' In Korea I haven''t been called young for a long time, but here they told me that being young means you have many opportunities to try things and time to do them.
Hearing this,I thought I''m at an age where I can try various things, yet I''ve been walking without even considering different paths. By taking this gap year I could have more opportunities and gain confidence.
And one of my favorite times was sitting near the pool after dinner and chatting with friends. Although everyone was from different nationalities, it was a happy time to learn about new cultures and meet new friends.
I was able to meet friends from many countries and the academy teachers. I met friends from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. I also think of my roommate; I had heard taxi drivers try to overcharge foreigners, but I remember kind taxi drivers too, and many locals would greet me with ''Hello'' as they passed on the street. Haha
My gap year tips

(Language)
It''s a place to learn English, but it would be good to study sentence patterns and vocabulary before going.
(Accommodation)
Honestly, it''s more comfortable to go without expecting much of the facilities... haha. The Wi‑Fi doesn''t connect when it rains. It''s okay to buy essentials like shampoo there. And there are a lot of ants.
(Meals)
Again, it''s best not to expect much of the meals. It''s hard to eat fresh vegetables. You can think of it as like cafeteria food.
(Supplies)
Actually, it''s a place where people live and there are big supermarkets nearby, so you can buy most things—so I hope you don''t worry too much.^^
