🏥 Why I joined the Ho Chi Minh medical volunteer program
I joined the Ho Chi Minh medical volunteer program to gain overseas volunteer experience and nursing-related experience before graduating university. At first, I was very worried about whether there would be tasks I could do locally and whether I could manage on my own.
🩺 Volunteer activities and impressions
The volunteer work started by going to the hospital by 8 a.m. and working in the department assigned by the administrator. I cared for patients by treating and disinfecting wounds, giving massages, and so on. By listening to the supervising instructor''s explanations and participating actively, I was able to reflect on the meaning of volunteering. In particular, I had dreamed of becoming an operating room nurse. During the volunteer program I had the opportunity to observe in the operating room and was able to watch the duties of an OR nurse from start to finish. It was a fairly long surgery, but I was so absorbed that I lost track of time — that experience remains vivid in my memory.
✈️ Unforgettable travel experiences
Using the weekly day off, I went on a Mekong River tour with friends, and the trip to Mui Ne with seven friends from different nationalities was the most memorable. We visited various places like the Red Sand Dunes, White Sand Dunes, and the Fairy Stream, creating unforgettable memories. During the trip we wrapped up each day by talking about various topics and finding the meaning of the journey, and through a mission where we wrote down each other''s strengths in writing, we were able to express gratitude to one another.
🌟 Dream of becoming an overseas nurse
I had assumed I would naturally get a job at a Korean hospital after graduation, but seeing nursing students from other countries here made me develop a dream of becoming an overseas nurse. In particular, I began to want to work with a Canadian friend I became close to, so I plan to focus on studying English to pursue that dream. For me, the gap year gave me a new dream and the courage to pursue it!
