One-month stay in Montpellier, France — a small European city loved by Europeans!
"I came back having fully experienced Montpellier''s relaxation, peace, and romance!"
🧘♀️ Why I chose to live in Montpellier for a month
I felt burned out during graduate school, so I decided to take a leave of absence and wanted time to get to know myself. I wanted to escape Korea''s fast-paced, achievement-oriented culture to find more leisure and peace, and because I longed for France and wanted to learn French, I chose Montpellier.
🎉 Best memory from Montpellier
My most memorable experience was traveling to the French countryside with my homestay mom. At a local food festival, I mingled with locals and danced, which was special. When I learned that shooting stars were visible and went outside to sit on a chair, people around me brought blankets and started conversations — their kindness moved me. Thanks to that warmth, I was able to see shooting stars about 15 times over the course of 30 minutes.
🧑🏫 Daily life and classes in Montpellier
On days with afternoon classes, I slept in and enjoyed leisure by eating meals I made on the terrace. I also spent time zoning out while admiring the beautiful view outside the terrace. Classes were with friends from various countries, including Spain, the United States, Norway, and Korea. The teacher explained slowly and thoroughly so students could understand. After class we enjoyed activities like playing traditional French games or visiting the Pink Lake, Marseille, and other places.
✍️ Changes after a one-month stay in Montpellier
Rewriting my forgotten bucket list made me realize I’m a passionate person with many things I want to do. It was a time to organize what I want to do in the future. By incorporating Montpellier''s leisure, peace, and romance into myself, I became more relaxed. I am satisfied with what I did in the past and am living while pursuing the things I want to do going forward.
