A month in Sydney starting at Australia''s beautiful beaches!
"I decided to study more while in Sydney, where I had gone to take a short break."
😥 Depression and burnout: why I chose a gap year after quitting my job
After working for eight years,I had a hard time dealing with depression and dysthymia and decided to quit my jobI did. During the last year I experienced burnout—felt depressed and found it very hard to go to work, and those symptoms started to appear, so I began taking antidepressants. Eventually I decided to take time to focus on myself through the gap year program.
🏫 Experience at a language school in Sydney
I attended a language school in Sydney for three weeks, professional teachers and a participatory class formatI was satisfied. In the lively atmosphere of students in their early to mid-20s, I was initially worried about the age difference, but everyone approached me with an open mind and I was able to socialize happily. Because people made an effort to be friendly, even without me trying too hard many people came up to me, I had many opportunities to socialize, made a lot of friends, and had a great time.
🏖️ Various activities and homestay life
I enjoyed life in Sydney by participating in various activities every day: city tours, painting and wine, beach volleyball, group study, etc.a variety of experiencesI had. Especially the homestay life gave me great satisfaction. The homestay family actively tried to break my reserved behavior, and through many questionsI communicated with them and was positively influenced.
🗣️ Improved English skills and regained confidence
While working at a foreign company I was somewhat accustomed to listening and writing in English, but I had difficulty speaking. However, thanks to my friends at the language schoolI gained confidenceI practiced speaking English a lot. I thought that everyone who comes to the language school came to learn English, and if they were already good they wouldn''t be here, so I practiced just saying things out loud a lot. As a result,I was able to greatly reduce my anxiety about speaking English.
📝 Bucket list mission and future plans
The bucket list-writing missiongave me time to think about what I likegave me. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to do, but by taking some time to write it down I thought, ''Oh, that''s right. I was someone who liked this too,'' and those thoughts came up a lot. The time spent writing it down was surprisingly memorable. Through my gap year, Idecided to study again in Australiaand applied to university. I also want to try working while studying.
🍫 A gap year is like chocolate.
To me, a gap year isIt''s like the chocolate you take out and eat when you''re having a hard time.It was a precious experience that I could recall at any time to get positive energy. When we''re concentrating and studying and get tired, we eat chocolate, right? In the same way, in my life when I''m having a hard time and think back to that time—''Ah, there were days like this. I also had experiences like this in my life''—it was a chocolate-like time I can always remember.
