    # After quitting, I had many concerns about my career path and changing jobs.

Hello, after graduating from university I worked as a childcare teacher and assistant teacher for five years, and I am currently taking a short break while planning a new career move.

The more I worried about the kind of job I wanted to move into, the more cautious I became about making choices, and I found myself spending time worrying without being able to set a direction for my future. I wanted to get away from this uncertainty for a while, and the gap year became like a light in the darkness for me.

Through gap year consulting, I was able to unburden the worries that had been building up in my heart.II lacked confidence in myself, and whenever I stood at a crossroads of choice, doubts would arise, making it difficult to make decisionsI used to experience that. Also,I became increasingly dependent on listening to and following other people''s opinions rather than expressing myself, and at some point I felt that I was not sufficiently respecting myself.

Together with the consultant, I came up with ways to solve my concerns. After leaving my job, the Philippines was very attractive to me in terms of price, and it was the perfect place for someone like me who likes activities. I chose it with confidence because I was told that Filipinos generally have a favorable view of Koreans and that I would be able to feel more comfortable. Of course, I also joined with the intention of improving my English skills! :)

    # I tried various methods to improve my English!

In Cebu, English was essential for expressing thoughts and opinions, so I studied English hard.

Since I was already studying English in Korea, I wasn''t too worried about communication. But when I actually arrived, everything was conducted in English, so I needed some time to adjust.

At first I naturally felt burdened by English — having to speak based on learned grammar, the difficulty of not even being able to immediately recall words I knew, poor listening comprehension, and yet having to keep using English. However, over time I was able to overcome it little by little. In particularIn one-on-one speaking classes I prepared by looking up what I wanted to say in advance and tried to use English as much as possible when talking with the teacher. In my case, rather than relying on a translator, I wrote first and then used ChatGPT to review and check my grammar..

In one-on-one classes, even if I prepared ten sentences I sometimes couldn''t say them all, butI practiced consistently, placing importance on attempting to say what I wanted to say.

    # I gained a variety of information through the new friends I met.

I was able to become close with friends of various nationalities at the language school.I was so happy to have the opportunity to meet friends from many countries in one place — Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, and others. When chatting with friends, I was able to naturally learn a little of each country''s language, and the process was very interesting. I was especially surprised and amazed that many friends were very interested in Korea and already knew a lot about it.

When I was first adapting to Cebu, I mainly spent time with a Korean older sister and a Japanese friend. By talking in English about each other''s lives and school life, I was able to adapt easily. Before leaving, I became close with a Taiwanese friend I was introduced to, and through that friend I was able to naturally interact with other Korean and Japanese friends. At first we didn''t know each other, but through one person we naturally connected with other friends, exchanged greetings and shared experiences, and gradually made more and more friends.. :)

    # I was also able to learn about Filipino culture!

I also learned about Filipino culture.Through a conversation with a rider, I realized that thoughts about home, money, and work in the Philippines are different from those in Korea.Philipino people, despite difficult conditions, adapt in their own way and pursue happiness; watching that, I indirectly learned how to be satisfied with what one has. :)

    # Philippine Cebu language study program — here''s my daily routine!

The first day at the language school began with orientation and a level test. Once classes were determined according to English ability, there were eight 45-minute lessons in a day. There was a self-study time between classes, and when I was tired I sometimes took a nap then to recharge.

After finishing English classes I sometimes went out with friends and had a good time, but mostly I went to the library to do previews and homework. I also had time to finish the day by writing in my diary.

    # My tips for preparing a Cebu, Philippines language-study gap year!

Before leaving for Cebu, I purchased the necessary supplies using the checklist provided by Gap Year. I also checked YouTube and various online communities to find additional items to bring and prepared them in advance. However, Cebu has many malls, so if you need something, you can go to a nearby mall and buy everything, which was convenient and nice.

Thinking about activities to enjoy in the Philippines, I researched activities to experience in Cebu and places I wanted to visit in advance. Finally, I spent time meeting friends I wouldn''t see for a long time, talking and saying goodbye.
