#Greater confidence speaking English; increased self-understanding #Improved language skills; diverse friendships #Benefits of learning English locally; the importance of taking initiative

Before, I felt a lot of pressure and was afraid to speak in English, but as I attended a language school and practiced speaking a lot, whether I was right or wrong I became less fearful and could speak more easily than before. Watching classmates from other countries at the language school speak English without worrying about being right or wrong also taught me a lot.
The start of a rewarding working holiday! Learning English in Melbourne, Australia Review from gapper Kim O-yeon |
I took a gap year for language study and overseas experience while preparing for employment!

Hello. I''m a participant who recently spent a gap year in Melbourne, Australia. While preparing for employment, I had the opportunity to take a gap year, so I went and spent it.
I felt I lacked overseas experience like studying abroad, and I really wanted to try it, so I joined the gap year. Among those,The reason I chose Melbourne, Australia was that I thought its safety was better than in other Southeast Asian regions, and I thought I would be able to have various experiences on my own.So I decided to participate. I also chose it because I wanted to try studying English abroad.
*Kim O-yeon, who needed experience in English conversation while preparing for employment, decided to do a one-month stay and language study in Melbourne, Australia''s representative city, which is safe and distinctive. Not sure where or how to start making changes and want a personalized plan? I strongly recommend 1:1 consulting with a gap year specialist!
The sure way to change your life: Gap Year 1:1 Consulting
I wanted to understand English better and be able to express myself well, too.

My gap year goal was really simple! My goal was to overcome the fear of speaking in English. And I wanted to find what I like and dislike, and what I want to do.
An experience in Melbourne to express myself in English and become closer to the language!

The best thing was that living in situations where I had to speak only in English greatly increased my confidence in the language.Regardless of whether I''m fluent in English, spending a month there greatly increased my confidence in speaking English.
I became very close with my classmates at the language school. Although we communicated in imperfect English, I felt sincerity come through. It was surprising and a grateful experience to be able to share friendships despite having different cultures and nationalities.
Since I no longer worried, I could express myself more.

What I feel even more after the experience is that learning English locally really has great advantages.
💡 First of all, you can gain confidence while learning English!
💡 One more important thing! It helped me discover what I''m good at and what I''m not, so I was able to find direction for my future English studies!I was able to set a direction for studying English. It was also a valuable time to reflect on what I do well and what I''m lacking in a new environment.
I always thought English was difficult, but being there made learning more fun too :)
Looking back, I used to think speaking perfectly was important, which made me even more afraid to speak English. So even when a foreigner asked for help on the street, although I could speak, I was so obsessed with speaking perfectly that I couldn''t speak well.
Now I''m confident speaking English, so if a foreigner asks for help I don''t think I''ll be afraid and I should be able to help them well — I''ll try my best :)
Before joining the program you''ll probably worry a lot about everything—I felt the same, so I really empathize. But I hope that worry doesn''t grow so much that you give up.Because you''ll gain a truly precious experience and be able to grow. I also thought about giving up, but overcoming my fears and going was the right choice.
# A day in my language study in Melbourne, Australia!

I woke up around 6 a.m. and got ready to go to the language school.
I had to take the 7:50 train, so I ate something quick like a banana at home, got ready, walked to the station, and took the train to school.
At the school I had classes from morning until 1:15 p.m. After class I would hang out in Melbourne city with a classmate about three times a week.We enjoyed free time trying that friend''s country''s food, shopping, or going to the nearby sea. Haha.
In the evenings we ended the day by eating various countries'' dishes that my homestay family prepared together.
If you come to Melbourne! Everywhere is beautiful, haha, but I especially recommend Melbourne''s ''South Yarra River''. You can see a great night view in the evening, and if there''s a sunset, the scenery is even more beautiful. I visited with an older friend I became close with in Australia; when I first came to Melbourne I saw the scenery and thought ''awesome'' — this was that place.

I also recommend visiting the ''State Library Victoria''. It''s a Melbourne attraction; when I visited there were tour groups. If you go up to the second floor you can see the library below at a glance. It looked like a very exotic library and felt charming. There are also various exhibits upstairs, so it''s worth checking out!
# My personal tips for preparing for a language study trip to Melbourne, Australia!
Melbourne, Australia, where I stayed, is a city famous for coffee. Locals take pride in coffee to the extent that they prefer small neighborhood cafes over Starbucks, and the city is serious about coffee! Also, when hiring cafe baristas in Melbourne, they test latte art and consider it an important skill.
So I usually don''t drink hot drinks in Korea, but while in Australia I drank only hot drinks because I wanted to see latte art. If you go to Melbourne, be sure to try the coffee. Every cafe makes good coffee so you can''t go wrong, but famous cafes include Market Lane, Seven Seeds, and Patricia.

# My Melbourne, Australia language course & one-month living gap year!

Experience ★★★★★
: I had a valuable experience in a new place.
Learning ★★★★★
: I liked being able to learn local English instead of Korean-style English.
Environment ★★★
: The new homestay environment required some adjustment, but Gap Year managed it well.
Safety ★★★★
: They took care of both departure and arrival, so I had a safe trip.
Leisure ★★★★
: Because it was less familiar than Korea, I had to get home early and couldn''t experience as much as I would have liked. On weekends I went around to many places.
