    Information

    Project Introduction

Florence, the center of medieval Europe and the birthplace of the Renaissance, is especially famous for its traditional Italian cuisine and wine made from fresh ingredients. You will learn the theory and practice of Italian cooking, from foundational courses for becoming a professional chef in Italian cuisine to traditional techniques.Additionally, Italy has a wide variety of regionally distinctive foods, so you will learn about three regionally characterized elements: cuisine, wine, and bread.

    About the Region

Historically, Italy is one of the wine-producing countries with a history even deeper than France, a nation famous for wine. In particular, Tuscany, the region that includes Florence, is one of the country's major wine-producing areas. The Chianti region is famous for producing wines that are a specialty of Florence.

Wine lovers from around the world visit to taste these wines. Italy's famous dishes, such as pasta and pizza, pair wonderfully with Florentine wine. In addition, Florence, as the center of many historical events, offers outstanding cultural, artistic, and fine art attractions such as the Duomo Cathedral. This makes it a region that delights travelers' eyes and palates.

In particular, Florence's greatest charm is strolling comfortably on foot rather than by car and exploring the quaint little shops in its alleys.

    About the Institution

In Italy, cooking is not considered an academic discipline. This means Italian food culture has been closely integrated into everyday life. For the many people who want to learn Italian cuisine, this is the only school that offers a formal Italian culinary program.

It provides an environment where students from many countries around the world can easily and professionally learn Italian cuisine, and it makes great efforts to help students become world-class chefs through what they learn at the school. Also, rather than dividing Italian cooking into separate classes such as pizza and pasta, the regular curriculum is designed so that students can learn and understand all aspects of Italian cuisine, from basic fundamentals to advanced professional courses.

The school's founder and chef is recognized for his expertise—he has written culinary columns for various local magazines—and, being internationally known, has also been active in various Italian cuisine-related activities in Korea.

    Accommodation Introduction

Participants can freely choose accommodation within the Florence area near the internship site according to their personal preferences and budget.

If project participants have difficulty finding accommodation,Korea Gap Year will recommend accommodations (guesthouses/hotels, etc.) near the internship location.

    1. Homestay

A homestay involves staying with a local family in the country where an international student resides, allowing you to learn the country's culture and language. You live with the family, improve language skills through communication, and gain an understanding of their lifestyle, values, and cultural practices.

    2. Guesthouse

    3. Shared apartment

A shared apartment involves international students renting a house together, typically around 5–6 people, and living communally. Depending on the condition of the house, you can choose a private room or share a room with one roommate. Unlike a homestay, it is not a family setting; residents share household tasks such as meals, cleaning, and laundry with their housemates. It has the advantage of living with friends from various countries.

    Travel Information

    Region:Florence, Italy

    1. Michelangelo Hill

The place to go to see Florence's night view is Michelangelo Hill. Looking at Florence from here is like viewing a painting: the Ponte Vecchio, Giotto's Bell Tower, and the Duomo line up and glitter, facing you. The night view of Florence from Michelangelo Hill, on the opposite side of the river from the Ponte Vecchio, is so beautiful it makes you feel as if you're seeing Florence from another place. The lights from the buildings reflecting and sparkling on the river also provide another wonderful view. Be sure to climb the hill at sunset, enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, and watch the red sky turn into night.

    2. Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge in Florence that was not damaged during World War II, and it is famous as the bridge where the writer Dante first met his beloved. It was a place where artists stayed, and lovers pledge eternal love by attaching love locks, filling the city with a romantic atmosphere. Also, the jewelry shops located beneath the bridge display Italian metal ornaments that are both ornate and detailed. How about choosing a ring for your partner here? Give a one-of-a-kind ring and bring a happy smile.

    3. Marino Wine Festival

In Italy, more than 130 types of wine are produced each year. The methods of maturation vary by region depending on the weather. Grapes are cultivated in different ways, and wine is produced from the harvested grapes. Every year a wine festival is held for four days starting on the first Sunday of October, the autumn harvest season. During the festival, the best way to enjoy the Marino Wine Festival is to eat your fill of wine and traditional Italian pork barbecue and indulge in the wine. There's also a special event during the festival: for about an hour you can see a wine fountain show in which wine flows from the fountain instead of water. A wine fountain show you won't see anywhere else! You can see purple-tinged streams of wine against the blue sky.
