If you want to reduce living costs while studying English in Melbourne, Australia, becoming a demi-pair is the answer!
A demi-pair is someone who lives with an Australian host family andan arrangement where you care for children 3–4 hours a day on weekdays (up to 15 hours per week) and receive room and board (a private room and three meals a day).During the daytime when the children are at kindergarten or school, you can study English at a reputable language school certified by the Australian government, and in the afternoons play with the children or spend time with your host family to quickly improve your English skills!
|
This project isregardless of genderAnyone aged 18 to 30 who likes children can participate. |

The basic price for a homestay in Melbourne, Australia, including board and lodging (private room/3 meals), is 4,420,000 KRW (based on 12 weeks)!! However, through a demi-pair arrangement, if you simply play with the children for 3–4 hours a day on weekdays (up to 15 hours per week), all of this is free!!! You only need to pay the tuition required for language study in Melbourne! If you've wanted to study abroad but hesitated because of Australia's high living costs,Save a lot on living expenses through the demi-pair program!Host families are carefully selected and will become a supportive second family during your stay in Australia.

The fastest way to improve your English while studying abroad is to be exposed to English around the clock through a homestay. In particular, living with children and using English with them helps you improve faster because you learn the language together!Enjoy not only leisure time but also various holidays and celebrations with the family you meet in Australia,Experience Australian culture as a local. You can also have truly special experiences, such as being invited to children's birthday parties or school performances!

Spend weekdays studying English and time with the children, and use the weekends to fully enjoy Australia!Melbourne, which was ranked the world's most livable city for six years, is a place where commerce, industry, culture, and leisure are all well developed. It offers many attractions to enjoy beautiful nature and culture not only in the city center but also in the suburbs. Explore countless Australian sights such as the Great Ocean Road that runs along the coast, Phillip Island where you can see a colony of little penguins, and Puffing Billy, said to be the real-life model of Thomas the Tank Engine!

If you've become somewhat accustomed to Australia while staying with a homestay family, and your everyday English has become more natural through English classes, why not try a working holiday? Australia's minimum hourly wage is among the highest of OECD member countriesOn weekends or public holidays you earn double payBecause of this, even if you only receive the minimum wage properly, you can save a lot of money, which makes it one of the most popular working holiday destinations. If you've already decided to do a working holiday, you can settle in safely at first through a demi‑pair; even those who hadn't considered a working holiday may gain the courage through a demi‑pair experience to try an Australian working holiday. Want to broaden your horizons and step into a bigger world with a working holiday?!

■ Hold on! Only English Zone! At schools where English classes are held, an English-only policy requiring the exclusive use of English Only English Zoneis strictly enforced. Also, through various measures—such as limiting each nationality's student ratio to 25–30% (Korean students limited to within 15%)—students from many countries gather and naturally communicate only in English. These measures have rapidly improved students' English skills and have received positive feedback from current students and alumni!! |

2. Demi-pair activities:Caring for children and helping with household chores

■ Attention!! Planner's tips — big reveal!!
1. Choose A or B? For working holiday participants for whom initial settlement is important, option B is recommended!
If you plan to stay in Australia long-term for a working holiday or study abroad, we recommend Option B! Initial settlement is especially important for working holidaymakers. In the first month there are many tasks—opening a bank account, understanding taxes, and more—so if you arrive and immediately start studying English and looking after children, your first month will be very hectic. With Option B, you can study English and get used to using it while having time to prepare for daily life and your career at a comfortable pace. You may also receive help adjusting to life from your homestay family.
2. Having an open mind is very, very important!
Australia is a place where many cultures coexist. As a result, family structures vary and each household has slightly different rules and routines. Because you will need to communicate in English while adapting, misunderstandings can occur. Therefore, it is really important to respect and be considerate of your homestay family’s culture and customs. Also, when working as a demipair, dealing with imaginative and energetic children requires making an effort to understand their thoughts and personalities and to pay close attention to what the children want. Above all, pay attention to safety. But once you connect with sincere, pure-hearted children, there is no greater, more moving experience. During this period, try to create your own family abroad through consideration and respect.

3. Barista internship course strongly recommended for working holidaymakers seeking overseas experience and English skills!
If this project helps you settle in Australia successfully, we recommend joining the "Working Holiday: Take on a Barista Internship!" project after completion. Through this project you can learn the English and practical skills needed to be a barista, earn certifications, and even get job connections with cafes in central Melbourne. No more worries about overseas work experience! Moreover, Melbourne is known as a coffee city, so cafes are famous and barista jobs are relatively easy to find.
If you wish to pursue this project alongside the barista internship course, please contact Korea Gap Year (koreagapyear@gmail.com)
4. What to prepare in Korea? Take the initiative with household chores!
This project is a demipair arrangement where you receive room and board in exchange for becoming part of the family and helping with childcare and household chores. Depending on the homestay family you are assigned, you may experience various tasks such as cooking, childcare, and cleaning. Therefore, helping your parents at home with cooking, ironing, and cleaning in advance, or spending time with younger cousins to practice, will help you adapt once you arrive.

|
English requirement***oo /Physical stamina requirement★★☆☆☆ - Because you'll be caring for children, you need sufficient communication skills to interact with the host family. - Playing with children often requires a certain level of physical stamina. Please check your fitness before applying. |
