Irish Transition Year System, Transition Year
Transition Year, Irish Transition Year System…
Starting with the Free Semester System, curiosity about the education systems of many European countries is increasing.
Today, we will learn about the Irish Transition Year System, which the Free Semester System benchmarked:)
Reviewing the ‘Free Semester System’!
What is the Free Semester System?
A system that provides middle school students with a chance to experience career paths for one semester and takes career-related tests instead of general subject tests (The current government is promoting ‘education that nurtures dreams and talents’ and is scheduled to implement it from 2016)
The Free Semester System is a system that benchmarks the ‘Transition Year System’ that the Irish Ministry of Education has been implementing for a long time, and emphasizes the importance of career exploration, practice, and experience.
It is already well known as the Gap Year system in the US, Australia, and Japan.
Transition Year is a gap year system that was first created in the UK and can be considered an Irish system.
The existing Irish Transition Year system is a system that selects the first year of high school and provides counseling, career guidance and examination, and job experience.
It is a program where students can realize their vague careers and career paths one by one with one mentor.
The direction of the government that implemented the Irish Transition Year system is to invest a lot of time in career guidance and the process of finding dreams rather than academics for a while.
Target of the Irish Transition Year System
The current government has been debating the target or timing of implementing the free semester system, and there have been many opinions on whether middle school or high school or middle school would be appropriate.
The Irish Transition Year system is for first year high school students. It is a system where students choose whether to attend the first year of high school after graduating from middle school. Friends who choose Transition Year will participate in the Transition Year program while attending their first year of high school, and it doesn’t matter if they don’t do it.
Transition Year, Helper
The Irish Transition Year System, Transition Year, provides career guidance and life direction to high school freshmen, so a position called Transition Year Coordinator is permanently located at the school. The Transition Year Coordinator reviews career guidance with the children and suggests directions to take.
Finding life direction and career guidance dreams,
is the direction of the Irish Transition Year System, Transition Year.
The fact that children grow up without dreams, just like the current social situation in Korea, was one of the major social problems in Ireland.
That’s why the system that started at the government level is Transition Year.
The advantages of this system have already been academically verified, and it has had a positive impact on schools and society as a whole.
I hope that Korea’s free semester system will also become a stepping stone for children to dream and set their own direction!
