Yesterday, three college students visited the Korea Gap Year office to investigate the gap year system.
I was secretly happy that awareness of the gap year system was growing.
Those who visited came after doing research in advance.
You asked in-depth questions about gap year and transition year.
One person said, ‘A gap year is about finding your dreams and career path through various activities.
'When this is applied institutionally in Korea, won't it degenerate into another specification?'
You asked a very sharp question. So, let me explain to everyone.
First of all, gap year is very different from improving resume.
In most cases, specs are not for achieving one's true dream, but for getting a job.
However, the purpose of a gap year is to find a dream and career path that suits you through various activities.
For example, if you are a student who dreams of becoming an international activist like Biya Han, you can participate in short-term volunteer work in a developing country. Alternatively, through an internship at an NGO, you can learn how international activities actually work and objectively determine whether you are a suitable candidate for such activities.
If not, you can quickly change your career path elsewhere.
On the other hand, if it is the life you want, you can continue to improve a resume that suits you.
This is what clearly differentiates a gap year from a specification.
In other words, a gap year can be said to be a lot of experiences that help guide your life!
I think there will be a big difference in the results between SPEC and GAP YEAR.
People who take a gap year to find their own direction ultimately achieve their dreams.
The process of achieving it will also be happier. After achieving that dream, there is nothing more to do!
However, there are too many people around me who have accumulated good qualifications and have been accepted into companies or large corporations that others want but are having a hard time or considering leaving the company because the work they are assigned to or the company atmosphere does not suit them.
We are realizing the dream that gap years, a creative time to pursue your dreams, should spread throughout our society!
