    PROJECT INTRODUCTION

This is a volunteer project in Barcelona, Spain, where you will support after-school activities at a local NGO, helping underprivileged children and youth in the community become self-sufficient. Barcelona is a city that captivates travelers with its beautiful architecture, tourist attractions, stunning beaches, and passionate people. However, beneath the surface, the growing gap between rich and poor means that many children still lose educational opportunities due to poverty. Additionally, the rapid increase in immigrants has led to more immigrant families, and currently, there are many children in Spain who do not receive family care. While these children can attend school, they are in environments where they need a lot of help to continue learning and nurturing their dreams. Through your small abilities, become a hero for these children, helping them see a broader world and grow their dreams!

    Transform

Time in Spain becomes a part of my life, and that experience influences my values. My relationships with local friends deepen, and I develop an attitude of naturally accepting cultural differences. The changes gained through language, culture, and daily life have concrete effects on my career path and lifestyle after returning home. I come back carrying a redesign of my life rhythm and a sustainable sense of ease that are hard to gain from a short trip. Experiences helping socially vulnerable people provide a clear answer to the question, "How do I want to live my life?" The conversations and laughter shared with the children make my emotions healthier and have the power to heal wounded hearts. The time I spent in Barcelona becomes an important turning point that makes me believe in my abilities and influence again. Experiencing a life where cultural diversity is part of everyday life gives me the conviction that my world has become much broader than before. On the way back, I become firmer, warmer, and more confident than before.

    - On the first day of the project, there will be a local orientation / pre-training and a Barcelona city tour.

    - In the morning, you will receive useful information such as an introduction to Spanish culture, the area, project guidelines, basic Spanish lessons, and safety precautions. After lunch, there will be a city tour where you can explore downtown Barcelona. Additionally, if needed, you can use this time to get assistance from local staff with purchasing subway tickets, local SIM cards, currency exchange, and more.

    - Participants will be assigned to one of the NGOs supporting youth in Barcelona to carry out activities.

    - Volunteers will assist local NGO staff in preparing daily activities for the children and help them with homework, exam preparation, and other tasks.  They will also plan and conduct various after-school activities (e.g., cooking classes, dance lessons, theater, drawing & crafts).

    - You will have fun playing with the children while teaching them English.

    - You'll help with local organization's events and activities, and during summer break, you'll engage in play and outdoor activities.

    - As a mentor, you'll freely discuss various topics to broaden the children's horizons and help them find their dreams.

    * The above are examples of activities, which will be conducted under the guidance of local staff.

The specific content may vary depending on the participant's willingness and abilities, as well as local circumstances.

       English Proficiency ★★ ☆☆☆

Since English is mainly used to communicate with local staff and volunteers, you will be in an English-speaking environment. If you have the ability to teach basic English, such as sentence construction and basic grammar, it will be a great help. However, rest assured that activities are assigned according to the participant's level of English!

    About the Provider

    INSTITUTION INTRODUCTION

This project is carried out in collaboration with a local youth protection NGO in Barcelona. Due to the rapid increase in wealth disparity and immigration, there are many children in Spain who need educational support and assistance. Unfortunately, many of these children do not receive the proper help they need because their parents may not recognize the importance of education or are unable to provide adequate support due to issues like alcohol addiction or financial difficulties. The local NGO provides after-school education and support activities to help these children nurture their dreams. The organization offers a safe environment where children can freely spend their leisure time and study. Through various services and programs such as educational support, independence training, and counseling, the organization helps children develop emotional bonds, integrate into society, and grow.

    Accommodation

    ACCOMMODATION INTRODUCTION

Participants will stay at an eco-friendly volunteer house hostel with a capacity of up to 320 people, sharing the space with international volunteers and travelers. This hostel provides an opportunity to meet a diverse range of people from different cultures. The dormitory accommodations can host up to 8 people and include indoor air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and basic bedding. Each dormitory room also has its own bathroom, allowing you to share it only with your roommates.

Common areas include a dining room, living room, balcony, outdoor space, terrace, and laundry facilities, providing a modern yet comfortable atmosphere. The hostel is located in one of the vibrant areas of Barcelona, making it very convenient to explore the city during your free time. The nearby FC Barcelona stadium and various restaurants, shops, and amenities make it a convenient place to stay. There are two subway stations within a 5–10 minute walk, as well as 14 regular bus routes, 2 night bus routes, and trams. It takes approximately 30 to 50 minutes by public transport to reach the activity locations, with the exact time varying depending on the specific location. For reference, it takes about 20 to 25 minutes by public transport to reach 'Plaza Catalunya,' the heart of Barcelona. The hostel is managed by a coordinator, so you can stay assured of your safety.

During the project, the hostel’s restaurant will provide two meals a day (breakfast and lunch) with fresh Spanish ingredients. (Including weekends) Dinner can be prepared by the volunteers themselves using ingredients purchased at local markets, or you can choose to eat at nearby local restaurants.

    * The accommodation is in a shared dormitory room. If you prefer a private room, upgrades are available upon request and can be arranged by contacting us individually (additional costs apply)

    * Public transportation will be used to travel between the project site and accommodation, with local transportation costs incurred separately (estimated at 1-20 euros per week, depending on the location and activities)

    * If you have special dietary requirements such as vegetarian or gluten-free options, please inquire separately.
