Korea GapYear Program Fee Distribution
Gap year refers to taking a creative time by either balancing or temporarily pausing academic or work commitments to directly experience various activities such as volunteering, traveling, career exploration, education, internships, and entrepreneurship, and using this time to establish a direction for the future. In fact, the gap year is gaining attention as a system that enhances the academic and job performance of students, workers, and professionals, and is globally encouraged as a culture that can rectify social issues.
Korea GapYear is the first organization in Korea dedicated to gap years, providing global gap year projects for those who are unsure of what to do during their gap year. However, the cost of participation is what makes it difficult to decide on the various projects one may want to attempt, from overseas volunteering to travel and internships.
" How is the project fee I pay used? "
1. Direct Costs and Currency Exchange Costs in the Local Area (73%)
The costs associated with participating in a Korea GapYear Program generally include accommodation and meal expenses necessary for living in the host country, as well as pick-up fees for safe transportation from the airport to the project location. Depending on the nature of the project, costs may also include materials and equipment usage fees, local training and orientation fees, issuance fees for certificates and qualifications, activity fees, costs related to dispatching and placement of participants, and administrative expenses. These costs represent the largest portion of the project fee and are closely related to the safety and real-life situations of participants in unfamiliar environments, making them a key focus for us
For volunteer projects, the costs that must be borne by the local organization constitute the largest portion. The economic situation of the country where participants engage in volunteer activities is often worse than we might think. For example, if participants are involved in a project constructing water tanks, the costs for providing accommodation and meals to the participants during the service period may exceed the benefits gained by the local residents. Thus, the expenses incurred by participants not only alleviate the economic burden on local residents but also provide educational benefits to children and access to clean drinking water for economically disadvantaged locals.
2. Project Planning and Local Dispatch/Verification (12%)
When creating a program, the first consideration for Korea GapYear and its most important value is, “Will this program enable participants to experience positive change?” Institutions that provide only results for show or teach solely through technical means without emotional exchange, or those that simply seek to exploit participants as cheap labor, do not benefit participants. Korea GapYear is particularly cautious about such institutions.
To verify such institutions and organizations, Korea GapYear directly dispatches Program Planners and Coordinators to the local area. Even if the institution is located in remote areas, planners conduct firsthand verification. Our Planner then primarily checks whether the project operating organization can provide participants with realistic experiences and share Korea GapYear ’s purpose and social mission of helping them find their dreams. They then meticulously verify approximately 200 items on a checklist, including the institution’s history, location, accommodation and facilities, and safety-related matters, coordinating suitable accommodations, meals, and other amenities for Korean participants.
3. Participant Support and Care from Start to Finish (7%)
4. Administration and Management (5%)
Careful and comprehensive management is needed to decide on the desired project and schedule on the dates chosen by the participant, as well as to facilitate their gap year in the local area. If any issue arises in any part of this process, even a single participant may experience discomfort. Korea GapYear manages these issues so that participants can focus entirely on themselves and explore their true identities and career paths during their gap year. We continuously strive to ensure that participants have a safe and fulfilling gap year by identifying and improving the causes of any issues that arise during this process. Additionally, we provide a domestic 24/7 emergency contact network to support participants, allowing them to concentrate more on their activities. Furthermore, we are constantly working to enhance Korea GapYear Programs that directly relate to participants' experiences by establishing a systematic and sustainable system along with regular updates and improvements.
5. Provision of Project Information and Application and Registration Assistance (3%)
The goal of Korea GapYear is to motivate even one person
to dream more.
It is to help those who give up due to the belief that various activities and experiences in the world are not beneficial to their qualifications or that they do not know what to do.
And we hope that those who are determined to take on challenges will change.
To help with other issues so that they can have a gap year that is entirely for themselves,
that is the role of Korea GapYear .
We hope you unfold your dreams in a wider world like a whale traveling freely through life.
