#Reduced anxiety and a lighter heart #Relaxation and achievement of personal goals #Small but clear happiness
I carried out several small personal missions,, I haven''t yet found a more constructive future or an answer, but I feel much lighter than before. Perhaps for mewasn''t this the kind of time I needed I suppose. The anxious rush to resolve everything within a tight schedule made the months-long trip I took before starting my gap year not feel like rest either,, I realized that, in the end, it wore me out again. - Tackling the emerging silver industry: Greece senior welfare care internship gap year review / Kang Su-hyun, gap-yearper / 12-week gap year |
# I was wandering because I didn''t know which career suited my aptitude.

Hello, I''m Kang Su-hyun, who participated in the Greece senior welfare care internship gap-year project.I couldn''t find relaxation and stability even during the trip I took after quitting my job,I was wandering, not knowing which career matched my aptitude. Then I discovered the gap year# My personal Greek destinationswas threesessions were held. Gap year The gap-year consultant told me that the goal was to heal my lack of affection through the gap-year project,, I set my own personal goals such as finding relaxation, developing proactive habits, and coping well with a long commute.
What I liked about participating in the Greece internship gap-year project was a relaxed scheduleIt was. During the remaining time, various things...I had a lot I wanted to do, and I enjoyed the times of zoning out even when there wasn''t anything in particular to do.. While participating in the projectI was most moved when elderly people with dementia remembered my name..
Among the people I met there, I particularly remember Seonmin unnie, who did gapper activities with me, and Joy, a local Greek intern who came later. While participating in the project for three months, not just one, I thought I would have been lonely if I had been alone.Joyfrom Octoberis a local intern friend who joined and worked with us,,stillonly 20young, but while experiencing difficulties during activities we sometimes felt overwhelmed together, which helped us build a sense of mutual understanding.
Since the work I was in charge of wasn''t one that carried heavy responsibility,,it became a time to greatly relieve the pressure and stressthat I had felt in my previous job.. Working too hard at everything, overly,I often reminded myself that there was absolutely no need to be so self-conscious and push myself to the point that my heart couldn''t bear it. Until a few months ago, I had felt I didn''t have the confidence to get things done,,but now my mindset has changed to ''just do it.''. Also, I found my own simple but clear view of happiness: I''m happiest when I enjoy delicious food in a sunny place..
# I was able to find some breathing room here.

The center not assigning me responsible tasks, and because I didn''t pressure myself to accomplish more, I was able to relax. Before actingI talked with my inner self,‘whether I''m really doing it because I want to, without being influenced by outside judgment or pressure’ I reaffirmed that and took action.
I carried out various small personal missions like that,, I haven''t yet found a more constructive future or an answer, but I feel much lighter than before.Perhaps for methis kind of time was what I neededI think. The anxious hurry to solve everything within a tight schedule made even the months-long trip I took before leaving for my gap year not feel like a real rest,, and I realized how much it ended up wearing me out again.
The environments and conditions involved in participating in this project100%were not fully satisfactory, but, in the end I''m going my own wayI''m happy and doing well there.Whatever it may be,a time to meaningfully accept everything that happens to me, That seems like a real gap year.

Because you''ll actually be interacting with Greek seniors,,learning basic Greek helps. There isn''t much time to have deep conversations with the staff, so you''ll use English less in the center than you might expect. Download a Greek learning app and learn useful words as you go — you''ll memorize them faster.
(Accommodation)
Accommodation in the Athens area isn''t cheap either, so compare options carefully(discounts for monthly payments).Instead,,avoid the cheapest Omonia area because it''s far from the center and a dangerous neighborhood. If the program participation period is2months or more, I recommend living in a different area each month.
(Meals)
Breakfast, dinner is up to you, but,Lunch during the program is provided by the center..However,In Greece, the average lunchtime is3o''clock, and in practice the center3:30meals are served around that time.Considering Koreans'' meal times3o''clock, it''s hard to wait until then, so it''s better to bring snacks to eat in between..Keep in mind that the mealtime atmosphere in Greece can feel like a debate—it''s hard to tell whether they''re arguing or just talking—which may be intimidating..
(What to bring)
1) Tumbler - Since the center doesn''t provide personal cups and the only place to get hot water is the coffee-selling cafeteria, from autumn you''ll face the inconvenience of having to buy hot tea every time..A personal cup or tumbler is necessary..
2) Greek learning apps - there aren''t many Greek textbooks, and apps are convenient because you can carry them and study on the go..You will learn many words and sentences..
3) ID photo -1A photo is required when purchasing a transportation pass valid for one month or longer..
4) smartphone(with internet access) - Anything that can use Google Maps is fine..
5) Others - 1If it''s for a month, you probably won''t need many items.. If you''re a gapper participating during a season change, clothing and necessary items will differ—buy locally or minimize what you bring.. (Actually, clothes and such are priced similar to Korea, so it feels wasteful to buy them and throw them away.)
# For prospective participants

If you''re going alone, short-term(1month)would be best.. If you speak Greek, that''s an exception.. The local teachers are visibly very busy, so there isn''t much time for small talk or to become close.. (they''re busy with work, Calls come frequently, so the flow is always interrupted ㅠㅠ) Overcoming affection deficiency or 자아 성찰과 같은 큰 목표도좋지만 개인적인 작은 목표도 꼭 가지고 오세요.
