#Improved expressive ability, understanding of different ways of thinking #Debating skills, reading habits #The realization that the humanities are present throughout life
Throughout the class, by having discussions I learned a lot about how other people think and was prompted to reflect. I realized that, even though I always spent time with others, I had never once considered their ways of thinking.

Goals I wanted to achieve
I didn''t have any extremely big goals.
I just wanted to develop my ability to express myself. I also happened upon a debate during a university lecture and found it more enjoyable than I expected. I tried to find opportunities to debate afterwards but it wasn''t easy, and even if I found them I wanted to properly know how to do it.
Also, I always vowed to read more books but never did; since a class imposes a kind of obligation, I thought I''d be able to read, so taking this opportunity to read many books was also a goal.
Now that the class is over, what about the goals I had set?
Debating was enjoyable, so I formed a debate group with classmates and we continue to meet.
I also worked through and read all the books assigned in class, and I still consistently read at least one book a month.
I didn''t know exactly what ''the humanities'' meant and couldn''t really feel it, but participating in the class made me realize it''s not something grandiose—it''s something present throughout my life.
Most memorable class
Throughout the class, by debating I learned a lot about how other people think and was prompted to reflect. I realized that even though I always spent time with others, I had never once thought about their ways of thinking.
Advantages or special features of the course
Above all, there weren''t many opportunities to debate, so it was great to learn about debate and actually practice it. Unlike lectures where we just listened passively, it was good that this was a class where everyone participated.
Changes observed comparing before and after taking the course
I had only tried to make an effort to read many books, but by actually reading a lot I naturally developed an interest in the humanities.
Also, when looking for books at a bookstore I used to only look for major-related titles or practical books, but now the range of books I read has widened.
In daily life, phenomena I used to pass by indifferently I now reconsider and organize from my own perspective.
"Jaegle Jaegle Humanities Debate" — recommended for these students
People who want to debate, or those who want to read books but find it hard to put into practice.
To me, the humanities are
a field of study that makes you think about how to live in a fun and happy way.
