#Broader perspective, increased confidence #Debate/interview skills, expressive ability #The joy of humanities becoming part of daily life

Another aspect that helped me prepare for employment was that, before each class, there was time for each person to talk about the newspaper they had read..It wasn''t just about reading the newspaper; it was training to express, even in 3–4 lines, how it could affect me in my own words, and this shone through during interviews as well..
- "Jaegle Jaegle" Humanities Discussion That Changed My Life / Kim Juhyun, Korean Gap Year Gapper |
I came across the Korean Gap Year humanities discussion by chance.
A friend I met while doing an internship said they were taking the Korean Gap Year humanities discussion course this time and recommended it to me..Since I usually don''t read books and didn''t even know what the humanities were, I wanted to know what the humanities are, and because it seemed like it would also help with the busy job preparation, I decided to enroll..
Looking back now, it was very helpful in the job process, but at the time of taking the class I thought it was not directly related to employment; I simply found it endlessly enjoyable to learn the humanities I hadn''t known and to learn each other''s thoughts through debate..
Humanities discussion in job preparation
I began preparing for employment in May of this year.started in May.. I didn''t know what or how to start, so I read the newspaper out of anxiety..
However, I only really got started after finishing the humanities discussion class.. The humanities discussion class wasn''t the direct trigger that made me start preparing for employment in earnest,, at that time the thoughts of others intertwined with mine like warp and weft became tightly woven, powerful thinking, and from then on I was able to proceed with job preparation one step at a time with confidence.
" Debate "
I didn''t realize it while taking the humanities discussion class, but it practically helped me while preparing for employment..
For me, who had been steadily preparing for a job in the banking sector, the bank''s discussion interview was a cause for concern. But after taking the class and actually facing the discussion interview,I noticed the unpolished aspects of the other people participating in the discussion.. The other personnot listening to what the other person saidBehaviors like selfishly insisting only on one''s own opinion and relying solely on notes were aspects I was criticized for and helped with during discussion practice..
Rather than relying on paper, speaking while looking at the other person''s face is basic courtesy..
Debate is not a verbal fight.,Respect the opinions of the other person as well.
During such classes, what I learnedabout attitudes toward debate and communication became a guideline when actually debating.
"Thinking"
Also, during class, pro and con positions for debates were assigned randomly..
So there were times when I had to think from the opposing side even though I personally agreed with the topic..This experience made me use my head to think about things I hadn''t considered before, and served as training to think in various directions in a short time..
Even during interviews, when a company‘asked for ''OO business revitalization measures'' ’,because I had been naturally trained to think and organize my thoughts in a short time, I could organize and express my ideas without difficulty.
"Expression"
Another aspect that helped me prepare for finding a job was that in every class, before the lesson started, we had time to talk about the newspaper each of us had read..It wasn''t just reading the newspaper; it was training to be able to express in three to four lines how it could affect me as my own opinion, and this also shone during interviews..
In the executive interview, I had to talk about a recent issuebuying directly from overseas retailersand because I had read the newspaper in class and briefly organized my thoughts to speak about it, I was able to present my thoughts logically..
The most memorable class
''What Is Justice?''is the class I remember where we read and discussed that book..
Cashandgifts—we held a discussion about which of these to give,The team that held the discussion consisted of one public administration major and one economics major. Because of this composition, I was able to consider ideas and opinions I had taken for granted from various perspectives. I had thought that giving an item was obviously a gift, and that giving a present was more sincere than giving cash, but through the discussion I was able to think in directions I had never even considered.
What changed
Previously, when I read a newspaper I read it with the thought of absorbing all the knowledge in it..Even when reading a single column, I tried to absorb the writer''s knowledge as if copying it..
But now I skim through, look at various newspapers to see how they think differently about the same topic, and then organize my own thoughts..
Plans for the future
I have started working, but I will continue studying as well. I plan to obtain a finance-related certification.
Also, humanities discussion1Even after the first term ended, the ''Toseonghoe'' has continued until now.(Adults who engage in debates)We formed a group by that name and have been active every week.2term, 3I also plan to meet with the 2nd- and 3rd-term members to energize the discussion group..
Because I like this group very much..The topic of the last meeting was''Can an artist be the owner of their work?''It was, and I really like that the humanities can become part of everyday life—entering my life so I can talk about them and be close to them..
And I plan to continue reading books..In the past, I not only didn''t read many books, I also didn''t think seriously about them,Now I think a book is a way to obtain almost for free the information, knowledge, and effort an author gathered to write it..
Humanities are
"a turning point in my life"
