Q.Please give a brief introduction~
Hello, my name is Choi Wol-mu. I''m 23 years old and currently on a leave of absence from school. I''m trying to figure out what I should do with my life going forward. In the meantime, I also learned about Korea Gap Year and that''s how I ended up here.
Q.How did you find out about Korea Gap Year?
I found out through a lecture at school. I''m not usually the type to seek out lectures, but at that time I felt very vague and frustrated and didn''t know what to do. So I attended the lecture, and because there were things the lecture couldn''t resolve, I decided to receive consulting from Korea Gap Year.
Q.What was the hardest thing when you were receiving the consulting?
I couldn''t find a reason to attend school, so I didn''t want to go. But because I had served in the military,I spent two years [in military service], so I felt that taking another leave of absence would be a waste of time, and I was stuck, unable to decide what to do.
Q.How did the consulting help you solve your problems?
I candidly talked about my situation from childhood up to now. After hearing that, they accuratelypointed out each of the problems that were troubling me, and I was very grateful and felt trust.
And through several consulting sessions, I felt small but real changes in myself. Lately people around me often say that my face looks brighter.
Q.Among the problems you currently have, what is the thing you most want to change andwhat goals do you want to achieve during your gap year?
My personality. I''m not able to be proactive in front of others.
I want to change this aspect of my personality, but honestly I don''t know how. However, my goal during the gap year is to actively express myself and participate proactively in Cambodia, and to work on changing myself.
Q.What preparations will you make before departure?
I''ll watch American TV shows and listen carefully to how everyday conversations are carried out to learn them. I haven''t been doing any other special preparations yet.
Q.What are you most worried about as you prepare to leave?
I''m a bit worried (laughs) that there probably won''t be many Koreans there, and I might feel down because I won''t have anyone to talk to openly.
Above all, my biggest worry is what if I return from the gap year and I''m in the same state as before.
Q.Then, on the flip side, what are you most looking forward to?
I''m excited to see how many different kinds of friends I can make. Also, I''ll be studying English while working with friends from around the world, so I''m looking forward to how much my English will improve.
Q.What would you like the gap year to be for you?
A way to find what I want to do.
