The consulting explained in detail what kind of person I am, so I became more positive and confident about everything. It also gave me the perspective to see which kinds of things suit me. -A time to find my wandering dream, 1:1 gap year consulting |
1. Please introduce yourself :)
''I love you.'' ''Thank you.''
I am a student brimming with positivity.
I was born in Gangwon-do and grew up for 20 years, receiving the energy of the East Sea every morning.
- ''The great aim of life is not knowledge but action.'' -(Huxley) is my motto.
Even for the smallest tasks, I put action and practice first,
regardless of whether the outcome is failure or success. ''Challenge'' I enjoy the act of ''challenging'' itself.
Not reckless actions (challenges), but preparing and
through systematic actions (challenges), improving myself day by dayI''m building that life.
I take the attitude of definitely doing what must be done and seeking out what I can do,I take responsibilityfor the tasks entrusted to me.
a time to become the changed version of yourself.I form smooth interpersonalrelationships, and
through serving as student council president, leadership and teamworkI possess.
2. How did you come across the gap year?
I served as student council president until my third year, and starting my fourth year I was worrying about employment like everyone else.
Because an issue suddenly arose in my family, I decided to take a leave of absence.
As soon as I started my leave, I was unexpectedly selected for an external activity.
From then on, I remembered what I wanted to do and felt like taking on challenges.
When I actually tried to begin, various incidents happened in my family, so I didn''t even have time to think.
As time passed, the household chores got sorted out and I was studying for certification exams to prepare for getting a job.
While sitting in the library studying, I had this thought.
''Is this how I should be spending my leave of absence??.. Why do I have to do this??..''
My mind and body were disconnected.
To clear my head, I sat on a bench and searched the word ''leave of absence'' on the internet.
Then!! There was a 15-minute ''Sebasi'' video. It was a talk by Gap Year CEO An Si-jun.
I heard a sentence in the video.I heard it.
.................I was stunned for a long time.
Right there I dropped everything I was studying and wrote, and wrote again in a notebook the things I wanted to do, things I could do, and things I had to do, etc.
At that moment, I thought, ''Gap Year... I want to meet them immediately.'' After that thought, I decided to join Gap Year.
3. Was there a reason that made you decide to get consulting?
After being introduced to Gap Year, I browsed various programs on the Gap Year website.
After selecting ten programs, I wanted to do all of them.
But there were too many obstacles.
Finances, time, my rigid father''s permission...
And I was worried even about choosing just anything.
I began to have many thoughts, wondering which program would suit me, and so on.
Among the programs listed in the lectures
I was drawn to the word ''wandering'' in Gap Year''s consulting description, so I clicked on it.
There was also a self-diagnostic test there.
It somehow organized my concerns so well...
I immediately applied and filled out the application.
4. What was the most memorable piece of advice you received during the consulting?
I received consulting from both CEO An Si-jun and instructor Park Jin-su.
The common message from both of them was
''If you want to do it, do it. Obstacles? There is always a solution.
But you have to do it yourself; others won''t do it for you.''
They said this and taught me a few methods that suited me.
And he told me that if you have a big goal, you should accomplish it step by step, one small thing at a time.
At that moment I felt a thrilling, breath‑taking sensation.
After participating in the program you recommended,
I was given a consulting opportunity by CEO An Si‑jun, who had introduced me to the gap year.
However, before the consulting began, I had learned and felt so much that I was completely filled with an overwhelming sense of inspiration (or knowledge?).
My mind was cluttered.
CEO An Si‑jun smiled at me and
''If you''ve eaten the meal (i.e., overwhelming emotion), you need time to digest it (into something of your own).''You also need time to process it.
''Don''t think too hastily—sit in a café with paper and pen and try writing things down.''
he said, the importance of organizing one''s thoughtstaught me.
Among what CEO An said,
''A gap year isn''t necessarily about doing a lot of things.
''A gap year is a time that brings about change.''
That remark stayed with me.
5.What was the first thing you did after receiving the consulting?
I approached my father.
Why?
In my 25 years I had never once rebelled against my father''s words,
If he opposed what I wanted, I would immediately comply; that had been my biggest concern.
For the first time in my life, I showed him my true passion for wanting to do it.
Of course, he opposed it at first... but I didn''t give up.
We talked for two to three days.
My father''s answerwas
''You need to present your case with thorough, well‑organized materials like this,
that''s how you win someone''s heart.''
Keep working harder from now on.
He said that, gave his permission, and supported all financial aspects.
It was the first thing I carried out and the biggest thing I did.I think.
6.What changed before and after the consulting?
A little more regarding everything I want or hope for,to prepare more systematicallyandapproachI became able to do so.
I tend to think a lot about my ultimate goal, prioritiesI was able to set them.
For example, I can instantly sort out what to do today,
and the time I spend needlessly worrying about what to do tomorrow has decreased.
And because the consulting explained in detail what kind of person I am,
I became more positive and confident about everything.
And I gained the perspective to see which kinds of work suit me.
7.If you had to define gap-year consulting in one phrase, what would it be?
Hmm... it''s like when you first learn to ride a bike: someone holds you from behind and then you can ride on your own.
If in the past I wanted to move forward but couldn''t do it without someone''s help and kept falling because I didn''t know how,
after receiving the consulting, I can move forward on my own,
I feel like I can advance on my own to wherever I want to go.
It felt like I only had a candle, and I was given a match as a gift.
Just as a candle alone is useless, I didn''t know what I could do,
or even if I knew, if I didn''t know how to do it,
I thought the consulting (the match) helped me discover the value of my candle and taught me where and how to use it.
8. What difficulties did you experience during the consulting?
There was nothing difficult or challenging.
However, the mindset of the person receiving the consulting seems important.
Before the consulting, in advance, regarding what goals one has or things one wants to do, etc.
clear preparationseems necessary.
That way the consulting goes more smoothly and the feedback about the consulting becomes clearer.
You can also be more moved/impressed. haha
9. How satisfied were you with the consulting?
Four and a half stars.
I think the person receiving consulting should have some degree of preparation in advance.
And a relaxed mindset??
I started the consulting with such a relaxed mindset that...
my head was a mess..
10. What were the good and bad points of the consulting?
Not knowing what to do,what strengths one hasregarding what strengths they have
provides a solutionby doing sobreaking through/solving the worries
The biggest advantage is being able to plan your future timeline.
It can also serve as a solution to straighten out a wavering mind.
However, if the person receiving the consultingwith a casual attitude (just give it a try?)if they receive consulting with that attitude,
they probably won''t be able to receive effective consulting.
The program itself has many advantages.
Because of the kindness of the CEO and instructor who provide the consulting and their efforts to relieve tension,
for someone confiding their worries, you can relax and have a comfortable conversation.
Depending on the mindset of the person receiving the consulting (earnestness, tension, seriousness, preparedness)
Opinions will be divided on whether the program is a strength or a weakness.
11. Advice you want to give friends who will participate in the consulting program, or ‘I recommend it for people like this’
"People who are worn out by the resume/specs race"
"People who want to create their own story but don''t know how to start"
For example, extracurricular activities, internships, cross-country expedition, certifications, Englishand so on,all-inis what most people do.
There is a highway made up of programs arranged by others.
It''s nothing more than comfortably cruising down that highway in a vehicle called a ''team-member'', paying tolls (time, money, etc.) at the tollbooth.
It''s nothing more than spending time just sprinting along.
The highway everyone takes may be comfortable, but it eventually becomes congested.
Gap year consulting is about creating your own private road,
designing a mode of transport that suits you (bicycle, walking, etc.),
and running your own solo race.
Even if the road is rough and takes a long time,
you can build a new, unique personal story through new experiences.
I would recommend it to most college students. Or to everyone in their twenties.
12. You have finished the consulting — what are your plans going forward?
I started with small things for a big goal..
I have completed a humanities program and plan to participate in a Taiwan bicycle program.
After finishing Taiwan, I will prepare for the big goal,
Of course, I think it''s good to have diverse experiences. So I''m thinking of going out into the worldbut.
I can''t ignore my family''s opposition. Still, because I have experience overcoming obstacles, I''m continuing the discussion.
So I''ll mention my future plans after returning from Taiwan ^^
13. Finally, what is a gap year to you?
A recipe
– Most cooking recipes are followed within a fixed framework, but a great restaurant...
It has its own recipe.
The taste can vary depending on how it''s done.
Like how a famous restaurant''s recipe creates a one-of-a-kind secret in the world,
나만의 레시피를 만들 수 있는 비법, 바로 갭이어입니다.
