#Career path reset; passion was stimulated #Knowledge of company operations; life mentors #The value of working passionately

Seeing how everyone worked with such passion to introduce gap years to students really inspired me. I reflected on myself for choosing a career based on salary and social perception, and realized I should find a path where I can foster my own passion.
-Gap Year Program Dispatch to World-Changing Social Enterprises / Korea Gap Year |
The company I worked for is called Korea Gap Year. A gap year means temporarily pausing studies to have creative time and to set the direction for the future. In our country, intense entrance exam competition often leaves people wandering without deciding their career paths. Korea Gap Year spreads the gap year culture and provides gap year-related programs to help students and workers resolve that uncertainty and have time of their own.
At the start of the internship, I was responsible for promoting the gap year program online. Korea Gap Year mainly targets high school and college students. So we promoted a lot on communities and university forums where those students gather. From the mid-term period, I researched and implemented new promotion methods. Also, to introduce the relatively unfamiliar concept of a gap year in our country, Korea Gap Year writes articles about gap years; I took on that task and wrote articles to promote the gap year concept.
.
Through the internship I wanted to learn about company operations, which I had been most curious about. Working together, I naturally learned about other departments'' tasks, and through group meetings I was able to learn in detail what various departments such as the planning team, accounting team, PR team, and marketing team do. The CEO often talked with employees and was better than anyone at giving praise and criticism, so I learned how to plan and carry out projects more meticulously and solidly. At our company we had ''Hoebasi'' (time to change the company), where as a break during work we took turns giving lectures. They covered various topics, and through this I could receive feedback not only on basic knowledge but also on presentation skills.
A feature of Korea Gap Year is that everyone works together. So although I was in the PR team, I was able to understand what the planning, accounting, and marketing teams do. In understanding the company I realized it has three parts: program planning, operation, and wrap-up. Looking at the various departments, I discovered that while I like creating ideas, I am more interested in organizing tasks and researching materials than turning ideas into concrete plans. Therefore I want to choose a career related to the final wrap-up stage.
I had many shortcomings as an intern, and since it was my first social life outside of school I was quite scared. I worried a lot about how I could help the company, and since the company''s main audience is college students I tried to contribute by offering ideas and input from a student''s perspective. I found the promotion work I did—drawing people in—quite interesting. In fact, working as an intern at the company was the darkest time, to the point that my family worried. The CEO, who consistently showed care, gave me personal counseling and as a mentor gave me a lot of strength. People at this company don''t complain about having too much work or speak ill of the company behind its back. Rather, seeing how everyone worked with the passion to let students know about gap years really inspired me. I reflected on myself for choosing a career based on salary and social perception, and decided that I should find a career I can pursue with passion.
