#From medical experiences to the determination to become a nurse. #Various skills I learned from my time at the hospital. #A month in Phnom Penh with my friends.
Hello, I am a student studying nursing. At that time, I took a break from school and applied for overseas volunteer work in Cambodia in Phnom Penh, which I couldn't do while I was studying. My goal was to gain lots of medical experience.
There, I ate breakfast, took a tuk-tuk to the hospital to volunteer, and then returned to my accommodation. After volunteering, I also hung out with friends. I went with a friend, and after arriving, I met another friend in the same situation as us and we became close.
At the hospital, I could see many cases and do many skills that I couldn't do during nursing practice. However, it is important to communicate clearly to ensure patient safety. Mistakes frequently occurred when we communicated in English with Cambodian medical staff.
I learned a lot about Cambodian history and was very interested as well. If you can break down language barriers, you will likely be satisfied. As mentioned earlier, the situation in the environment was challenging at that time. My accommodation was in the city, so I had many opportunities to experience things. I mainly visited large supermarkets. Still, I grew a lot over the month, and after the project, I felt more inclined to become a nurse.
I would rate how much this project helped change my life as 7 points. I want to tell future participants that bug repellent is essential and that Mr. Majang was very cute when he kept mentioning that he was studying Korean hard. 💓
