#Helped bring about changes in life #Healing and learning #Volunteering and travel

  •

It was a time of healing and learning.

The local coordinator was also very warm,

The Gap Year coordinator prepared the pre-departure arrangements, so I had no worries.

They were patient even though my English was poor, and I was able to have a variety of experiences.

    # Gap Year Motivation

Hello, I''m Jeong Young-ju, who volunteered to protect wild horses at the Orlando Horse Protection Center!I chose this project because I usually liked animals, and wanted to learn how the wild horse protection centeroperates.I applied because I was in need of healing.Since I was doing a working holiday in Vancouver,I had no concerns about staying for a long period, and Gap Year sent pre-departure preparations before I left,so I didn''t have much to worry about.

    # Project Activities

9:00 AM to 1:00 PM: cleaning animal enclosures and feeding

1:00 PM to 4:00 PM: free time (prepare and eat lunch on your own)

From 4:00 PM: feeding at the animal enclosures and activities (horse rehabilitation, etc.)

When I met the local coordinator, she treated me warmly like a grandmother. Even when my English was poor and communication wasn''t smooth, she waited with a smile and helped me try various experiences.

    # What I Learned

I learned how to train horses that had been hurt by people. Since I didn''t know much about horses, I was surprised at how different their training methods are from other animals.

    # My life change score: 9/10

It helped change my life (9/10).

Actually, I was a bit afraid of large animals, but spending two weeks with the horses helped reduce that fear. haha

    # A message to participants of the US wild horse protection volunteer program

The work isn''t as hard as you might think. However, it was hot in summer (May), so I recommend bringing something to avoid the heat, and if you study even a little about horses beforehand, you''ll enjoy it more.

    # A time of healing and learning

After participating, I learned many things and had plenty of healing, so I returned to Vancouver feeling more at ease.

    # Recommended travel routes

Actually, the local coordinators introduced almost all the routes. Kayaking and seeing manatees and alligators was also fun, but if you don’t know where to go while volunteering, ask the local coordinator and they’ll guide you in detail!

    # A volunteer program that''s really enjoyable if you like animals

If you like animals, this is a volunteer activity you can really enjoy!
