I took a leave of absence because I had negative feelings about hospitals, and my perception of hospitals changed through my Gap Year. I was so surprised at how kind the hospital staff were, and I was proud of myself for doing something and seeing it through to the end. It became an opportunity to overcome my limits and grow.

#I took a leave of absence after entering nursing because it wasn''t a good fit.

Hello. I''m a college student majoring in nursing. After entering the nursing program I realized it didn''t suit me at all and took a leave of absence, and I began to dislike hospitals as places. However,I wanted to have at least some positive memories of the hospital environment,, so I joined a medical volunteer program in Cambodia.
*Lee Se-eun started her Gap Year because she wanted to have good memories of hospitals. Want a customized plan for your situation? We strongly recommend 1:1 consulting with a Gap Year specialist!

#I wanted to reduce my aversion to hospitals.

Personally, the biggest goal of this Gap Year was to reduce my aversion to the hospital environment and to have good memories of hospitals. And at the same time,I also wanted to make myself a bit stronger.
#The hospital staff were very kind.

When I was volunteering,I was surprised that most of the hospital staff were kind. The atmosphere was quite different from Korean hospitals. Also, among the volunteers there were Korean friends and friends from Europe; I got along well with friends from the UK and Denmark. At first I was a bit worried about fitting in with the European friends, but everyone took good care of me, so I was grateful.
#I felt proud of myself.

At first the climate was very hot and it rained every day, so it wasn''t easy. Still, I felt proud that I completed such an intense activity to the end. If I had done nothing and just stayed still, I would probably have regretted it more.I felt proud of myself for doing something and finishing it.
#Cambodia medical volunteer work — here''s my daily routine!

When I volunteered, the hospital had set working hours and departments, but schedules could be adjusted day by day. I mainly followed the local nurses to help with work and performed simple auxiliary tasks.I was able to work in a relaxed atmosphere.
#My tips for preparing a Cambodia medical volunteer gap year!

I had almost no overseas experience, butGap Year provided detailed checklists and preparation guidance, so I was able to go without much trouble. And it was the rainy season when I volunteered, with almost daily rain. So I recommend bringing a portable umbrella.
