#Confidence that I can thrive abroad #A rewarding experience combining travel and volunteering #Sense of fulfillment from volunteering; international connections

I joined because I wanted a meaningful and unique experience. The environment was very nice, and it was safe and private. All the friends from around the world who participated were great people, I liked being able to experience foreign environments and cultures through the volunteer work. Just the fact that I challenged myself to volunteer abroad made me feel very proud, I feel proud of myself.

Hello! I''m Son Ji-won, and I participated in a volunteer program protecting abandoned animals in Portugal. I wanted to gain overseas experience, and I thought volunteering would offer a more meaningful and unique experience, so I went to help care for abandoned animals.
*Wanting to meaningfully gain overseas experience, Son Ji-won set off for volunteer work caring for abandoned animals in Portugal, where she could give and receive lots of love. Want a tailored plan suited to your situation? We strongly recommend one-on-one consulting with a gap year specialist.

#I wanted to make foreign friends and experience a new culture.

Through this gap year, I wanted to make a foreign friend. I also thought that by participating in the volunteer work myself, I could understand Portugal''s culture and environment more deeply.
#The conditions were much better than I had expected.

I wasn''t very good at English so I was worried at first, but the conditions were excellent. The accommodation allowed me to store my personal belongings securely, and each room had curtains so I could stay privately. The friends I volunteered with were all nice people. Above all, I liked that during the volunteer time I could experience the foreign environment and culture more concretely than through travel.
#I feel very proud and pleased with myself.

Above all, just the fact that I challenged myself to volunteer abroad makes me feel very proud. I feel proud of myself, and perhaps because of that, it will remain in my memory for a long time.
#Portugal Lisbon volunteer work — here''s what my daily routine was like!

In the morning I woke up and ate the breakfast provided by the accommodation, then took public transportation with the friends I volunteered with to the volunteer site. After volunteering I returned to the accommodation to eat the provided lunch, walked around the area, or leisurely went to nearby cities to travel.
#My tips for preparing for volunteer work in Lisbon, Portugal!

The environment and organization are better than you might think, so you don''t need to worry too much. However, I recommend studying English a bit before you go. I also recommend volunteering in the morning and then going into the city to travel. Combining volunteering and traveling will make your day feel very fulfilling!
