After diligently studying in the nursing department for three years, I reached my fourth year. I was mentally and physically exhausted and didn''t have confidence that I could get through my final year well. Wanting to take a meaningful leave of absence, I was exploring overseas volunteering and came across the Gap Year program! I chose the Cambodia medical volunteer work recommended by Gap Year because I felt it was a great opportunity to make use of my nursing major.

# Hello! I am a nursing student on leave who went to Cambodia for medical volunteer work.

Hello! I''m 21-year-old Seo Yewon :) After studying diligently in the nursing department for three years, I reached my fourth year. I was mentally and physically very tired and wasn''t confident I could make it through my final year well.
So,I decided to take a leave of absence to seek new experiences and rest my mind..Wanting to spend a meaningful leave of absence, I was exploring overseas volunteer work and came across the Gap Year program!I thought the Cambodia medical volunteer program recommended by Gap Year would be a great opportunity to utilize my nursing major and choseit!
* As a nursing student on leave who wanted to spend a different time before returning to school,We recommended a customized Gap Year plan by consultation to Seo Yewon :) If you want to know where and how to start making changes and want a tailored plan, we highly recommend 1:1 consultation with a Gap Year specialist!
A sure way to change your life: Gap Year 1:1 consulting
# I wanted to live a more proactive life through new experiences.

Through Gap Year, I wanted to escape the boring daily life in Korea, communicate and exchange opinions with people from various countries, and gain experience adapting to a new environment on my own.
Through this process, I wanted to create an opportunity to live my life more proactively!
# I created new connections solely by my own effort.

Through the project, I had the opportunity to talk with people from various countries and learn about their cultures, and I was able to make new connections by my own efforts..I quickly became close with the Korean friend who arrived a week early, and also bonded quickly with the Italian friends who attended the orientation in the same week and the Australian friend who arrived a few days before departure. Thanks to that, every day was filled with fun and happy memories!
At first I worried a lot about how to plan the trip to Cambodia, but fortunately the Korean and Italian friends suggested making the itinerary together, and it was resolved in no time!By sharing each other''s ideas like this, we were able to make a richer plan, and the moments when our friendships deepened were truly precious.
# If you have the will and proactivity to want to do something, nothing in this world is impossible!

When I first started volunteering at the hospital I was a little hesitant because I didn''t know what to do, but I quickly adapted as I got to know the hospital staff. They recognized my willingness to learn and gave me active tasks, and I was moved by how understanding they were even when I was clumsy. Thanks to them I was able to learn so much!
I tried out various procedures I couldn''t experience in Korea and kept asking the nurses questions,I was able to try many of the tasks that nurses can do for patients myself. I realized that if you have the will and initiative like this, there''s nothing you can''t do!
# I could break out of a narrow perspective and feel my horizons widen through new experiences.

Before my gap year I had become used to the boring daily routine in Korea and was living a boxed-in life.
But after coming to Cambodia, traveling and talking with foreigners, I realized that other people live so freely. It was an experience that planted new ideas in me, who had been trapped in a narrow view. As a result I developed a strong desire to have many more new experiences in the future!

To: Those of you about to take a gap year in Cambodia! Doing activities in a foreign country that is not Korea can certainly be exciting but sometimes scary. However, during your gap year I hope you will act proactively no matter what! It''s okay if language doesn''t work well! If you overcome your fear and approach them, they will warmly welcome you :)

# Cambodian medical volunteer work — here''s my daily routine!

While volunteering at the hospital, I worked weekdays from 8 AM to 3 PM and learned how to care for patients by following the nurses. After work I spent leisurely time sightseeing around Phnom Penh, and on weekends I visited and toured Cambodia''s famous attractions.
I''ll tell you must-see spots when traveling in Cambodia. Visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum near Phnom Penh, Aeon Mall, the Tonle Sap River, and the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh! Also don''t miss Koh Rong Island, Sihanoukville, and Siem Reap — home to Angkor Wat and Pub Street!
# My Cambodian overseas medical volunteer gap year is!

Experience ★★★★★
: I was able to communicate with people from many countries and build memories. During the hospital volunteering I could learn in detail about procedures I couldn''t do directly, and it became an unforgettable experience.
Learning★★★★★
: I was able to learn a lot! By following the nurses around and asking questions, the nurses tried to teach me and gave me many opportunities to try things myself, which was great.
Environment★★★
: Due to Cambodia''s characteristics, the buildings and transportation were inevitably underdeveloped. Nevertheless, I was very satisfied that through the gap year I could use clean facilities.
Safety ★★★★★
: There are many motorbikes on the road, so always be aware of your surroundings and be careful when walking!
Leisure ★★★★
: I was able to participate in activities and also travel freely on weekends.
