There are many reasons people travel to South America, but it''s true for everyone that learning even a little Spanish lets you enjoy a richer trip. I highly recommend the Cusco gap year program, where for an affordable price you can experience the richness of South American culture at the heart of the ancient Inca civilization!!

-AmigoEspañol — Learn Spanish in Cusco

Machu Picchu, a must-see site before you die.

Cusco is a city you must pass through to get to Machu Picchu. As the former capital of the Inca civilization with a glorious history, it has many ancient Inca ruins besides Machu Picchu, so it''s always crowded with many foreigners.

Countries in South America use Spanish. So knowing Spanish when traveling in South America means you can enjoy a more varied and fun trip. Before starting my main travels, I signed up for a program to learn Spanish in Cusco. There are many cities, but I chose the gap year program because it was cheaper than in other countries and offered free activities. However, by participating in the program I ended up learning and experiencing more than I expected.

Because I didn''t know any Spanish at allI received one-on-one private lessons. I took classes from 10 AM to 1 PM, and spent the remaining time sightseeing freely or participating in programs offered by the school.Cusco is like one large museum. After class I explored the city, feeling the ancient Inca civilization — I wandered around without noticing the time. Also, when schedules matched I joined cooking or dance classes offered by the school, made friends, and took trips to areas near Cusco with them.

My expectation that I would only learn Spanish through the gap year program was completely off. Although it was a short time, through the program not only Spanish but...the charm of the city of Cusco and the charm of the continent of South AmericaI was able to fully immerse myself in them and experience new pleasures. The Spanish I learned during this period was a great help when later traveling to countries like Bolivia and Argentina, and with the confidence gained from understanding Latin or South American culture I made local friends and had unique experiences.

After checking the gap year program information, what additional details did you need before joining, or what differed from reality?

I learned locally that they conduct a level test and that private lessons are possible if you don''t know any Spanish at all.

Memorable enjoyable experiences (or unpleasant experiences and solutions) while participating in the gap year program

Because the Spanish school offers various activities (cooking, exercise, dance, etc.) for free,

you can join according to your schedule and make foreign friends.

    Common language

Spanish, but in practice...Englishwas used by many people.

My personal advice on language use for the gap year program (pre-study methods, etc.)

In the case of Spanish schools in Cusco, there''s no problem using English so communication isn''t difficult, but...Prepare basic Spanish in advance: numbers, how to ask how someone is, and greetings. If you go there, it''s convenient to live locally and you can learn Spanish faster.

My personal advice to future volunteers regarding accommodation

The Spanish school provides accommodation, but if you can''t get into it you can stay at a regular hostel for a low price (Koreans mainly use a hostel called El Puma).

My personal advice to future volunteers regarding meals

If you stay at a hostel with cooking facilities, it''s more economical to cook for yourself than to buy food.

My personal advice to future volunteers about what to bring

An electronic dictionary is useful, but you can study comfortably with just a notebook and pen.

My personal advice to future volunteers about free time

Since the school offers various activities for free, if you make time and actively participate you can make international friends and learn Spanish quickly.

participated gap year program through overall felt points? (the program how it was, yourself felt what what)

travel period during briefly time to make Spanish if you learn this after trip a little more comfortable and fun enjoy be able to can.Spanish even a little knowing and not knowing thing is a big difference and, several countries from friends to make can so affordable price program through Spanish if you learn would be good seems.

gap year program to participate before participation after compare when to oneself change if there is?

gap year program to participate before Spanish didn''t know with locals to talk when fear was strong, but, program participation after basic Spanish by learning confidence having with people to talk ability was able, and worry without schedule by planning to travel ability was able.

gap year program while participating like this if it had been done more better thing seems such as regrettable points if there are?

program in itself problems there were none, but, Spanish teaching person English to speak able to didn''t know understanding couldn''t skip over parts there were many. therefore like me Spanish at all not familiar with person''s class conducting when English to some extent can be able person teaches would be better seem.
