#Gained confidence to take on new challenges #A sense of pride as a Korean and the experience of being loved #Felt the joy of escaping the everyday

Meeting new friends and being loved simply for being Korean was very touching. Now that I''ve returned after completing my gap year, I have gained a lot of confidence. People around me say I''m amazing just for going alone and taking on the challenge.
Sharing hope that''s more filling than a meal at a special restaurant in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam! Jang Ha-eun, gapper (25) / 2-week short-term overseas volunteer gap year |
# Hello! I''m a participant who volunteered to share food in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam through Gap Year! :)

Hello! I''m 25-year-old Jang Ha-eun, who participated in the Gap Year overseas volunteer project sharing food at a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam!
I had been very interested in Vietnam, and while looking into various things I learned about Gap Year and joined the Ho Chi Minh volunteer project.
*For participants who wanted time to think about their future path and themselves and to grow, daily tailored one-on-one missions offering special local experiences and opportunities to get to know yourself better were provided, and a Gap Year notebook to reflect on yourself and make plans was also provided.
>> Participation fee 100 KRW! Go to Gap Year mission
# Through this Gap Year I wanted to take on new challenges and gain confidence!

While preparing for this short-term overseas volunteer activity, I prepared by looking at the essential packing list provided by Gap Year!
And before leaving for Ho Chi Minh to take part in the Gap Year, I had a goal: to take on a new challenge and gain confidence through this Gap Year!
Now that I have returned after completing Gap Year''s short-term volunteer project, I have become much more confident, and people around me think it''s impressive that I went and challenged myself alone — that''s what''s changed!
# What does a day look like in the Ho Chi Minh food-sharing short-term overseas volunteer project?

I woke up at 6 a.m., took a bus around 7, arrived at the volunteer site at 8, prepared tableware and side dishes, took a short break, and then carried out volunteer work from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
After the volunteer hours ended, it was free time so I went sightseeing nearby or traveled with local Vietnamese friends.
# It was great to escape my daily life and meet new friends in a new place!

What I liked during this volunteer period was being able to meet new friends, and it was very touching to be loved simply for being Korean. Also, in Ho Chi Minh I saw friends learning Korean, and I could feel their passion for learning.
I thought it would have been better if I''d gone earlier than I did, haha.

And during the two weeks I stayed in Ho Chi Minh, I met many people — from the friends who shared the volunteers'' accommodation with me to local organization managers, language school teachers, young students I met at the restaurant, aunties, and more!
# My personal tips for preparing for the Ho Chi Minh short-term overseas volunteer activity!

Also, before joining the Ho Chi Minh volunteer project, it would be convenient to bring a hairdryer and a mini fan in advance! You can buy toiletries like wash items locally in Vietnam.
