1. A time to plant a little peace of mind alongside plants

This healing farm stay project lets you live close to nature as you grow flowers, plants, and crops at a local farm in Gimje. Step away from your busy routine for a while. Touch the soil, plant flowers, and care for plants as you enjoy some peaceful time of your own. At the farm, you can choose and plant flowers and plants that suit the season, and learn how to keep each one healthy based on its needs. As you make a small garden and watch your plants change each day, caring for them may become one of life’s simple pleasures. Each plant needs a different amount of sunlight and water, and each grows at its own pace. Even when you care for it well, sometimes you have to wait. As you watch plants grow, you may realize that we, too, need time to grow at our own pace and receive the care we need. If you have been too busy taking care of tasks and other people to think about how you feel, take a break from everything this time and focus on yourself. You may come to learn not only how to care for plants, but also how to care for yourself.

2. The wisdom of growing flowers and plants: a new hobby to brighten everyday life

At the healing farm in Gimje, you can get to know many kinds of flowers and plants up close. Step by step, you will learn their names and features, how to grow them well, and how to arrange them beautifully. Find out which flowers bloom in each season and what conditions help different plants grow. Then learn how to plant seeds, water them, and care for your plants. As you grow basil, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more in the garden, you may start to see familiar plants and foods in a new way. You can also learn how to arrange flower colors and shapes, and make wreaths, framed art, and useful home items with flowers and plants. This is a fun way to express your own style and creativity. As you learn the names of plants that once seemed unfamiliar and grow your own plants or arrange flowers, you will gain a sense of achievement and confidence. The gardening skills you learn here can lead to a new hobby after the project ends: growing flowers and plants at home and finding small joys in everyday life. If you like plants but have found it hard to get started, take this chance to enjoy growing a little garden of your own.

3. A relaxed daily life at nature’s pace

Take a break from your busy, everyday routine and spend some time living slowly in step with nature. At this healing farm, you can plant and care for flowers and plants as the seasons change, and enjoy the calm, peaceful life of the countryside—something that can be hard to experience in the city. Feel the soil beneath your hands in the warm sunshine, pick food from the garden you have cared for, and make something of your own with fragrant flowers. Even without doing anything special, little moments with nature can make your day feel full. Seeds do not sprout right away, and plants grow at their own pace, even when you care for them well. By spending time with nature, you may slowly learn that you do not have to rush everything. If you have always felt pressed for time and under pressure to get things done, try matching the farm’s slower pace for a while. You will find that you can have a meaningful day without moving fast or doing lots of things. Let yourself follow nature’s rhythm, notice the seasons up close, and find again the calm and peaceful moments in daily life that you may have forgotten.

By touching flowers, soil, and leaves and noticing their colors and textures up close, you can enjoy making a small creation and growing a plant with your own hands. As you choose where to place the flowers and how to decorate the pot, you naturally show your personal style. You look closely at seeds and plants and learn how to plant them. You also find time to slow down and notice changes in nature that you might usually miss. When you look at what you have made, you feel proud and think, “I made this myself.” Nature begins to feel less like a difficult subject and more like a friend you can enjoy and care for. Main Activities

This is a stay-based project where you care for plants and help manage a healing farm in Gimje. You will design and tend a garden, and experience the steps of planting seeds, raising seedlings, planting, and harvesting. You can also join activities with local schools and culture centers, such as gardening workshops, growing seasonal crops, and cooking classes using farm produce. Activities may change depending on the season and the plants’ condition. Take part in projects at the healing farm, including seasonal crafts, garden work, and nature games, and experience everyday life alongside nature.

1. Take part in seasonal plant care, such as planting seeds, raising seedlings, and working in the garden.

2. Design a garden, plant flowers and other plants, and help care for the healing farm.

3. Learn about different flowers, such as tulips and lilies. Plant bulbs, move plants into pots, and learn to care for and observe flowers.

4. Make bouquets and flower baskets with seasonal fresh flowers, and learn how to wrap bouquets.

5. Help run hands-on activities that use preserved flowers and pressed flowers to make everyday items such as picture frames, wreaths, fans, lights, and mugs.

6. Plant basil, tomatoes, and cucumbers, set up supports, and help run cooking classes where the harvest is used to make pesto, canapés, and pickles.

Activity Details

1. Seasonal Garden Activities

Care for crops throughout the seasons, from planting seeds and raising seedlings to planting, tending, and harvesting crops in the garden. Depending on the crop—such as basil, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, or vegetables for kimchi—you can try planting, setting up supports, and harvesting. The harvest may be used in related activities, such as making basil pesto, canapés, cucumber pickles, potpourri, fruit punch, or kimchi. You may also design and plant your own garden or try selling your harvest as local produce.

2. Planting Flowers and Other Plants

Plant flowers, succulents, water-grown plants, or air-purifying plants in pots or other containers. Learn about each plant and how to plant it, then care for your decorated pot like a companion plant. You can choose from different styles, such as a terrarium, mini dish garden, hanging succulent garden, or potted topiary. Depending on the season, you can observe tulip or lily bulbs and learn how to plant them in pots.

3. Pressed- and Preserved-Flower Crafts

Use pressed and preserved flowers to make decorations and useful items. Decorate a picture frame with baby’s breath and birch bark, or add pressed flowers to a fan, glass mug, lamp, or brooch. You can also use preserved flowers to make a heart-shaped wreath, flower basket, wreath, mood light, or mirror clock light. Choose the flower colors and arrange them yourself to create your own design.

4. Crafts Using Natural Materials

Make a variety of crafts using natural materials such as natural moss, herbs, tree nuts, and sphagnum moss. Write your dream on a tree nut and decorate a dream-tree frame with moss, or make a worry doll with reindeer moss. Put herbs in a cloth bag to make and decorate potpourri, or wrap a plant in moss to make a ball-shaped topiary with a face. You can also combine plants and messages by making a hanging plant garland or a calligraphy frame.

5. Help Run an After-School Village School Program

Join hands-on classes run with nearby schools and culture centers. Take part in field trips that combine garden work, harvesting, and seasonal activities. When crops are ready to harvest, hold a small farm party and enjoy a simple festival with local people.

Location Overview

| Region: Gimje

A day in Gimje begins slowly, with wide-open skies and fields all around. Here, you notice the changing seasons before you notice the pace of the city.

Spend time growing plants on a farm and living by nature’s pace. You begin to hear birdsong and the wind, sounds you may have missed in your busy daily life.

As you might expect from a farming region, Gimje’s food is comforting and filling. After a warm meal made with seasonal ingredients, you can appreciate the taste of well-cooked rice and simple, neatly prepared side dishes more than any fancy menu.

Even in an unfamiliar restaurant, a generous meal gives you plenty of time to share the day’s stories with the people you came with. Before long, the conversation grows longer.

On the weekend, you can take a short trip around Byeokgolje Reservoir. Walk along the wide fields and waterways to enjoy Gimje’s open scenery.

If you want a livelier day, head to Jeonju. Walk through its alleys, share tasty snacks, and stay out until evening. On the way back to Gimje, dark skies and quiet roads welcome you instead of city lights.

A trip to Gimje is not about rushing to get things done. It is a chance to make a little room in your mind amid the wide-open scenery and grow closer to the people walking beside you.

As the day ends and you look toward the ridges of Mount Moak, you may wish you could live at Gimje’s easygoing pace for a while.

■ You can start this project on any day of the week you choose.

■ The minimum participation period is one week.

■ Who can join and what are the requirements?

  • Anyone interested in farm activities, gardening, or flowers can take part.
