This internship project allows you to gain hands-on experience in a real medical environment at a public hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam, and develop professional clinical sensibilities. Because the program takes place at Vietnam’s largest surgical center, you will have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of cases up close. Work and interact with medical students from around the world and experience a unique chance to learn about medical cultures and systems different from those in Korea.
1. Medical experience at a specialized surgical center
This project is conducted at a public hospital in Vietnam with over 1,500 beds and 52 operating rooms. High-complexity surgeries—such as cardiac and hepatobiliary procedures, robotic surgery, and organ transplants—are performed frequently, so there are many opportunities to observe cases that are rarely seen in general hospitals. You can broaden your medical knowledge through diverse clinical situations and develop clinical judgment by closely observing patient-centered consultations and surgical procedures.
2. Global exchange: learning with medical professionals from around the world
You will work not only with local specialist medical staff but also with medical and nursing students from various countries. Through ward education sessions, participation in rounds, and small-group discussions, you can share opinions with colleagues from different backgrounds and naturally broaden your perspective. By discussing patient cases with students from Europe, North America, Asia, and other regions, you will learn about differences in medical systems and treatment approaches. Through this process you will build a global network and expand your expertise and outlook by meeting new cultures and people.
3. Opportunities to explore specialties and expand career paths
You can directly experience various medical specialties you have been interested in, such as emergency medicine, anesthesiology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and pediatric surgery. You will mainly assist medical staff and observe patients, and with the supervising physician’s permission you may help with basic procedures and treatment assistance. Depending on participants’ majors or areas of interest, you can intern in a specific specialty for up to two weeks. This allows you to experience the atmosphere and work style of the field and confirm your suitability. Based on this global clinical experience, you will also be able to consider various career paths such as overseas residency, international health, and roles at organizations like the WHO. Take this valuable time to explore career directions that suit you by experiencing a range of medical specialties.
4. Cultural experiences while traveling throughout Vietnam
Hanoi is a city where history and modernity blend, and beyond the internship activities you can enjoy a variety of cultural experiences. Stroll around lakes to enjoy the night views, visit traditional markets and cafes to savor delicious Vietnamese food, and experience the daily lives of locals up close. On weekends or holidays, you can travel with fellow interns of different nationalities to places like Ha Long Bay, Sapa, Ninh Binh, and Da Nang to experience the diverse charms of nature and city life. Enjoy Vietnam’s vibrant culture and create unforgettable memories.
