    Program Introduction

Students from Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College is a project that, during a 4-night, 5-day volunteer program in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, brings hope to children and youth and provides warm careParticipants care for patients alongside local medical staff at local hospitals or provide meals and caregiving to vulnerable children, allowing them to experience joyful and meaningful moments.

Overseas volunteering is one of those extracurricular activities that many students imagine at least once during their university life. Stepping out of familiar surroundings to volunteer in a foreign country and encountering diverse cultures and people can greatly broaden one’s perspective. In particular, Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in Asia, with many children lacking homes or not getting a proper meal even once a day. This project allows participants to learn things that cannot be learned in the classroom by directly experiencing local hardship and helping.Participants will feel that sincerity transcends language, and the experience of mutual respect and cooperation can greatly influence their future lives. Students who personally experience small actions to build a better society gain the strength to live in a wider world with a warmer heart.

A feature of this project is that students perform volunteer work based on their majors. Department of NursingStudents care for patients in hospitals alongside local medical staff, experiencing the role of healthcare providers up close. Department of Social WelfareStudents work with local NGOs to provide meals for vulnerable populations and gain an understanding of the actual workflow in the welfare field. Department of SportsStudents enjoy soccer and basketball with the children and feel firsthand how sports positively affect children's emotional development. In this way, what is learned at school can be applied to real situations, helping them develop practical skills and gain the pride that their knowledge can help someone's life..

In the often tiring routine of classes, exams, and assignments, students can feel the excitement and fulfillment of a new environment. Many volunteers say that when children run up with smiling faces and throw themselves into their arms, they forget all their previous worries and concerns. For the children, simply laughing, having fun, and playing together is a great source of strength.Volunteers are also deeply moved by the children's bright smiles and warm gazes. Even if language barriers exist, experience the precious time of understanding and connecting through love!

    • Avoid going out alone outside of scheduled activities; if necessary, go with someone you trust.
    • UV levels are strong during the day, so bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
    • Cambodia has a conservative culture, so please avoid clothing that is too short or revealing.
    • Since there will be many activities, bring breathable cotton clothing and sturdy shoes.

    English requirement: ☆☆☆☆☆
