Gapyear Backpack Checklist

listIconBack to List

The most important thing you need to do for your gap year is packing.
When you pack and prepare, don’t try to pack too much. I know you’re worried, but managing all that stuff isn’t easy. The key is to pack only what you need!

Check the gap year checklist in advance to see what you need for your gap year.
The types and quantities of items may vary depending on the individual, but it’s best to carefully prepare only what you need.

Only what you really need!
I’ll emphasize this once again: only what you really need!
One thing you need to remember is that there are supermarkets in every country. In other words, there are many things you can buy locally that you’re worried about not being able to bring. You can buy shampoo, conditioner, slippers, and even clothes that you think you need to pack wherever you go. Instead of being greedy, pack only what you really need!

Choose your bag carefully!
The size of the backpack should be carefully chosen considering the region, schedule, and the body type of the traveler. If you plan a somewhat leisurely route or stay in a big city, the wheels of the carrier can reduce shoulder pain or arm numbness. However, it is very inefficient to drag the carrier on a road full of rocks or in a place with dangerous security!

We recommend that you pack a bag that fits you according to the region and schedule.

The less the better!
It may seem like a good idea to pack everything you can before you leave.
In reality, no one wants a heavy bag. For backpackers, the heavier the bag, the harder it is to move. The lighter the bag, the better. That way, it is easier to carry and you will look less like a traveler.

Reduce weight and wear comfortable clothes!
Generally, when packing for a trip, you need three items for each type of clothing.
Three tops, three pairs of socks, etc. Try to match the clothes you bring with you in a variety of ways.
For example, don’t just wear a T-shirt. Pack long-sleeved clothes to block out the strong sunlight, and clothes that you can dress up in case you need them. Don’t wear clothes that are too thick, but instead pack clothes that keep you warm.

Should I pack a sleeping bag?
When packing for a trip, especially when you’re backpacking or going far away, there are conflicting opinions about whether or not you should bring a ‘sleeping bag’.
The advice I’d give you regarding a sleeping bag is that if you’re going to camp independently or take a night train or a long-distance bus, you should pack one. Otherwise, since you’ll be using accommodations most of the time, I’d say you don’t really need one.

Still, packing is always difficult. To help you pack a little,
I’ve created a gap year checklist. I’ve compiled only the essentials, so I hope you find it useful.
