Support the new adventures of Baby Sea Turtles on the beautiful beaches of Bali, Indonesia!

  •

I think it was just that one feeling. "I hope the turtles live long, healthy lives without getting hurt."

Watching them float on the water from afar made me worry about the little ones venturing out to sea, but on the other hand, I felt relieved that the baby turtles would be able to adapt quickly. I felt proud of them too :)

Supporting the new adventures of baby sea turtles on the beautiful beaches of Bali, Indonesia!

    # Hello! I’m a college student who just returned from a magical encounter with baby turtles.

Hello, I’m a college student who returned from a magical encounter with turtles through volunteering in Bali.

I went to Bali with a sister I’ve been close with for a long time. I was so happy to finally go to Bali, a dream I had for a long time. I wanted to have a meaningful experience through volunteering while getting enough rest in Bali, so I signed up for 'Supporting the new adventures of baby sea turtles on the beautiful beaches of Bali, Indonesia.' To be honest, I had a bit of fear about the turtles at first, but the tiny steps of the baby turtles were so adorable that my fear melted away like snow.

This experience has instilled a love for turtles in me, and every moment spent with new friends remains a precious lesson, making the choice to embark on a gap year a truly wise decision :)

    # I wanted to confront the fears within me!

This experience of traveling while volunteering was my first challengeI wanted to eliminate the fears inside me by volunteering with baby turtles in Bali! It may seem like a small goal to someone, but it was a big challenge for me, and I am really proud that I accomplished it!

In fact, I also had a fear of turtles, but it disappeared as soon as I saw the baby turtles :) It was amazing to see the baby turtles breathing in the dirt, and watching them scurry around once they emerged into the world was so adorable!

    # When the little baby turtles were sent off to the sea, I felt worried, but I was also proud :)

I think I encountered various emotions while living with the turtles for a few weeks.

When the turtle eggs, which had been buried in the dirt, hatched and the baby turtles came into the world, I was amazed by the small lives breathing beneath the surface while carefully digging out the not fully hatched eggs.

We also sent the baby turtles that had hatched and grown a bit out to sea! We took them out of the tank, placed them briefly on the sand, and prepared to send them off to the ocean. I divided the turtles into three baskets and released them from the waves. As soon as I set them down on the sand, watching them dash towards the sea was incredibly moving.

At that time, I think it was just that one feeling. "I hope the turtles can live long and healthy without getting hurt." I also helped kids who had lost their way to find their direction again. Watching the little ones floating on the water from a distance made me worry about them leaving for the sea, but at the same time, I felt relieved that the baby turtles would adapt quickly. I was proud of them too :)

    # Meeting new people was really a precious experience!

Also, the new relationships I formed during my volunteer work in Bali were truly special. There was a peer named Yuriko during the volunteering, and thanks to the fun stories she shared, I was able to feel comfortable while volunteering. Spending time together made us feel like family, so the two weeks flew by!

In particular, there was a driver who took care of us warmly like a father until the last day of our overseas volunteer work in Bali, and I have fond memories of how comfortable he always made us feel. If I get to travel to Bali again, I definitely want to travel with this driver again!

    # The overseas volunteer work in Bali was a special time filled with new experiences!

The environment in Indonesia is so different from Korea that every landscape I saw was fascinating and new. At the homestay where we stayed, there were monkeys, birds, koi, chickens, cows, and parrots, which is something you can’t even imagine in Korea. At first, I felt like I was in a zoo. I remember laughing a lot because it was so cute to feed the monkeys and play with them up close.

Also, I was able to enjoy fresh seafood every day. It felt like a feast every time with squid, shrimp, fish, lobster, and crabs. The local market had various fruits that are hard to find in Korea. In particular, the fresh juice made from raw fruit was so delicious that I still can’t forget it! If you come here, you must be prepared to gain weight!! :)

    # What is a Day Like in Indonesia Bali's Animal and Environmental Protection Volunteer Program?

I woke up regularly between 7 and 8 in the morning to start my day. My daily schedule and volunteer activities ended before 5 PM, so I wasn't tired and could enjoy some leisurely free time. During my free time, I explored local markets or tasted fresh seafood dishes from the market. I especially remember the seafood dish I had for dinner!
