Working holiday in Australia,
Taking on a barista internship!
I completed this program and am now working as a barista in Melbourne on a working holiday.
At first, wanting to break the monotonous working-holiday life of just working, I wanted to make foreign friends and improve my English,
I applied for a barista course because I wanted to learn about the differences between Korean and Australian coffee cultures.At first I wondered if there would be much difference from Korean coffee, but after five weeks of classes I developed a strong pride in Australian coffee.
The curriculum was detailed for each week, so not only did we study coffee, but we also conducted market research, learned how to serve, explored the coffee harvesting process, learned about coffee varieties and flavors, and compared tastes by sampling wine, cheese, and desserts, experiencing everything firsthand.
Also, by taking coffee classes at Melbourne''s top Hospitality TAFE, I was able to quickly learn various types of coffee. During the five-week course, through several café placements I experienced taking orders and making coffee while working in a café.
After these experiences and the five-week course, the internship included one week of interview practice and
two weeks of café placement where I practiced various latte art,
I was eventually hired by a café and am currently working as a barista.
Through this project I learned about coffee and attended classes with friends from various countries,
I made foreign friends and got a barista job — it felt like achieving more than three benefits at once, and I''m so happy!
