#A change in my attitude toward life, improved physical fitness #Solo travel experience, increased confidence #I feel I had a great life experience

  •

I think my attitude toward life has changed through my gap year.During the two months I stayed, I went out almost every day, so my stamina improved and I lost weight, which was nice. Also, I think it was nice to have taken a solo trip that I hadn''t been able to do until then. There were times when I felt lonely, but by going out and exploring on my own, I think I gained a bit of confidence.

    Currently, South Korea is,

each year 60,000 middle and high school students drop out, 346,000 people in their twenties are just idling without dreams, and the one-year turnover rate after employment has entered the 40% range,75% of university students are not satisfied with university life, and more than 80% of employees report not feeling happy. Many people tell them to dream, but to address this problem which lacks practical methods and support, we want to introduce the ''gap year'' to South Korea as well.

    *What is a gap year?

A gap year refers to a period when one pauses or combines academic studies and engages in various activities such as travel, volunteering, internships, and education to find one''s dreams and aptitudes.(See more gap year stories and projects< Go to the Korea Gap Year website)

*What is a Gap Year Stay?

It''s a project where you pay a small fee and can try staff activities at a guesthouse while meeting various people. The biggest advantage is that participants can interact with diverse people and gain new stimulation.

#Through a gap year, I wanted to change my mindset through new experiences and reflect on myself through travel.

In the process of finding a job after graduating from university, I wanted to think about what I truly like and am good atdoing.and consider what kind of work I could do,and I wanted to have time to think about how I should live from now on.In a situation where I couldn''t decide on that direction, an acquaintance recommended a project called Gap Year. It was a bit unfamiliar, but it seemed like a project to find oneself, I was interested, and since I had always been interested in Jeju and wanted to try living there, I applied to the project.

I wanted to change my mindset through new experiences through a gap year and reflect on myself through travel.

#Looking back nowWhen I think about it, doing these things seems to have improved my stamina compared to before and I gained some know-how, but at the time it was really hard.

In the first month, there was an existing staff member, so the two of us split the work into morning and afternoon shifts. In the mornings I cleaned rooms and in the afternoons I handled guest check-ins; those were the main duties, and the morning work was harder than I expected.RoomThere were more rooms than I expected, and tasks like changing duvets, emptying the air-conditioner water container, cleaning the bathroom, taking out the trash, hanging laundry, running the vacuum, etc.—there were more things to do than I thought, and those tasks were not easy either.

It wasn''t difficult work, but for someone like me who had hardly done these kinds of chores at home, it was overwhelming. On unusually hot summer days... I sweated a lot.Looking back now,Thinking about it, doing these tasks seemed to improve my stamina and I gained a bit of know-how, but at the time it was really tough.

#After staying here for a few months, I felt like a Jeju resident, taking buses and exploring every corner.

On the other hand, afternoons were relatively quiet. I could sit in the living room and when guests arrived I showed them to their rooms and explained the guesthouse, and when reservation inquiries or bookings came in I handled them on the computer.

One good thing about being at the guesthouse was that there were many foreign guests, especially a high proportion of Chinese guests. I majored in Chinese at university, so I was interested in Chinese people; it was nice to have many opportunities to meet them while traveling in Jeju. It''s a pity I couldn''t interact more actively, but it was a unique experience.

It was also nice that I was able to travel around Jeju during my time working as guesthouse staff.I had visited Jeju a few times before for trips, but I only went to a few main tourist spots, so I don''t remember much and didn''t know the place well. After staying here for a few months, I felt like a Jeju resident, taking buses and exploring every corner.

    # My recommended travel spots: islands!

During my two-month gap year period I went to many places and visited three islands: Udo, Marado, and Gapado. They''re worth visiting at least once.

#I think my attitude toward life changed through my gap year.

I think my attitude toward life changed through my gap year. During the two months I stayed, I went out almost every day, so my stamina improved and I lost weight—which was good. Also, it was good that I took the solo trip I hadn''t been able to do before. It was. There were times I felt lonely, but searching and going around by myself gave me a bit more confidence.

Also, through the gap year project I met various people different from me and learned how to get along with them, and working made me realize that there are no easy tasks.

During the two months in Jeju there were many hardships and times of doubt, but I think I had a valuable life experience and felt that I became more mature than before.

    My gap year is

    experience★★★★☆

I think you can gain a variety of experiences, including how to interact with people.

    Learning★★☆☆

I think it varies by individual, but the work is relatively simple.

    Environment☆☆☆

    It''s bustling.

    Safety★★★★☆

The landlady and her children live together, and because the surrounding area is a busy commercial district, it''s relatively safe.

    Leisure★★★☆☆

It depends on the individual, but the work is harder than expected and the hours are inconvenient.
