Jeju! I want to live there. :: Jeju Gap Year Stay Gap Year Review

#A change in my outlook on life; improved physical fitness #Solo travel experience, confidence #I feel I had a meaningful experience in life

  •

I think my attitude toward life has changed through my gap year. During the two months I stayed, I went out almost every day, so my stamina got stronger and I lost weight, which was good. Also, I think it was good that I took a solo trip that I hadn''t been able to do before. There were times when I felt lonely, but by going around and exploring on my own I think I gained a bit of confidence.

    Currently, South Korea is,

each year 60,000 middle and high school students drop out, 346,000 people in their 20s are just idling without dreams, and the turnover rate within one year after employment has entered the 40% range,75% of university students are not satisfied with college life, and more than 80% of workers do not feel happy. Many people tell them to dream, but to solve this problem where there are no realistic methods or support, we want to bring ''gap years'' to South Korea as well.

    *What is a gap year?

A gap year refers to a period during which one pauses or balances studies while engaging in various activities such as travel, volunteering, internships, and education to find one''s dreams and aptitudes.

*What is a gap year stay?

It''s a project where, for a fee, you can stay at a guesthouse, meet various people, and try staff activities. The greatest advantage is that participants can come into contact with different people and receive new stimuli.

#Through a gap year I wanted to change my mindset through new experiences and reflect on myself through travel.

After graduating from university, in the process of looking for a job, I wanted to think aboutwhat I truly like and am goodat doing, and I wanted to take time to think about how I should live in the future. In a situation where I couldn''t decide on that direction, an acquaintance recommended a project called a gap year. It was a bit unfamiliar, but it seemed like a project to find oneself, and I was interested; I had always been interested in Jeju and wanted to live there, so I applied to the project.

Through a gap year I wanted to change my mindset through new experiences and reflect on myself through travel.

#Looking back now, thinking about it, while doing these things my stamina seems to have improved compared to before and I gained some know-how, but at the time it was really tough.

In the first month, there was a staff member who used to work there, so the two of us split the work into morning and afternoon shifts. In the mornings it was cleaning rooms, and in the afternoons checking guests in was the main task, but the morning work was much harder than I expected.RoomThere were more rooms than I expected, and tasks like changing bedding, emptying the air-conditioner water container, cleaning bathrooms, taking out the trash, hanging laundry, vacuuming, etc. — there were more things to do than I thought and those tasks were not easy.

It wasn''t a difficult task, but for someone like me who rarely did this kind of work at home, it was overwhelming. On an unusually hot summer day... I sweated a lot.Looking back now,When I think about it, doing these tasks seems to have improved my stamina compared to before and given me a bit of know-how, but at the time it was really hard.

#After staying here for a few months, I feel like I rode the bus and went all around every nook and cranny like a Jeju local.

On the other hand, the afternoons were fairly leisurely. I would sit in the living room and when guests came I would show them to their rooms and explain the guesthouse, and when reservation inquiries or bookings came in I would handle them on the computer.

One good thing about being at the guesthouse was that there were many foreign guests, especially a high proportion of Chinese guests. I majored in Chinese at university and therefore had a strong interest in Chinese people, so I think it was nice to have many opportunities to interact with them while traveling in Jeju. It''s a pity I couldn''t interact more proactively, but it was a unique experience.

It was also nice to travel around Jeju during the period I worked as staff at the guesthouse.Although I had visited Jeju a few times before for trips, I only stopped by a few main tourist spots, so I didn''t remember much and didn''t know the place well. After staying here for a few months, I feel like I rode the bus and went all around every nook and cranny like a Jeju local.

    # My personal recommended travel destination: islands!

During my two-month gap year, I went to many places and visited three islands among them: Udo, Marado, and Gapado. They''re worth visiting at least once.

#I think my attitude toward life changed through the gap year.

I think my attitude toward life changed through the gap year. Since I went out almost every day during the two months I stayed, my stamina improved and I lost weight, which was good. Also, I think it was good that I took the solo trip I hadn''t been able to take until then. There were times I felt lonely, but by finding things and getting around on my own I think I gained a bit of confidence.

Also, through the gap year project I met various people different from me and learned how to get along with them, and while working I realized that there are no easy tasks.

During the two months staying in Jeju there were many hardships and times of doubt, but I think I had a valuable life experience and felt I saw myself more mature than before.

    My gap year is

    experience★★★★☆

I think you can gain a variety of experiences, including how to socialize with others.

    learning★★☆☆

I think it varies by individual, but the work is relatively simple.

    Environment☆☆☆

    It''s bustling.

    Safety★★★★☆

The owner (landlady) and the children live together, and since the surrounding area is a bustling district, it''s relatively safe.

    Leisure★★★☆☆

It depends on the individual, but the work is harder than expected and the hours are irregular.
