By meeting many people and encountering many different values, and reflecting on what kind of values I myself hold, I was able to grow a bit more.I wasn’t usually very afraid of unfamiliar things, but spending two months there helped me become a bit more mature.

Living in Jeju was a valuable time during which I gained good ideas and fond memories.

    - Jeju! I want to live there. Gapyear Stay / An Sun-young gap-year family, gapper / 8-week gap year

    Currently, South Korea is,

Each year 60,000 middle and high school students drop out, 346,000 people in their twenties are idle with no dreams, and the job turnover rate within one year of employment has entered the 40% range,75% of university students are not satisfied with campus life, and over 80% of office workers report not feeling happy. Many people tell us to dream, but to solve this problem that lacks practical methods and support, we aim to introduce the ''gap year'' to Korea.

''Gap year (Gapyear)''is a period during which one either balances study and work or temporarily pauses to engage in various activities such as volunteering, travel, internships, education, and entrepreneurship,a time to set the direction for the future; it is a culture encouraged in the United States, Europe, Japan, and other countries.

    # During my leave of absence, I wanted to rest a bit and travel, and my biggest wish was to have time alone.

I usually like traveling and enjoy meeting and socializing with new people, so I participated in the Jeju Stay. When I first arrived in Jeju and began living there, it was different from my usual living space and the environment was different, so I needed time to adapt, but with a positive mindset I think I was able to get used to it quickly.

To be honest, I didn''t start with any big expectations. I justwanted to rest a bit and travel during my leave of absence, and my biggest wish was to have time alone.

    # When I had free time or days off, there were many days where I would impulsively go to places I wanted to visit.

On days off I liked that I could have time alone, travel, and relax. On holidays I sometimes stayed at other guesthouses and it was nice to meet and socialize with various people. This was my first solo trip; only the initial courage was hard, and I thought I''d be able to do it without much difficulty in the future.

Personally I like the sea, so I went to many places often, and the beaches of Gimnyeong and Sehwa were the best.I also like cafés, so I visited various places including the cafés in Sehwa, a pretty café in Hallim, and the famous café next to Soesokkak.

These days Jeju has many cute and pretty cafés, so if you like them, a café tour might be great. Ithink I visited most of Jeju''s coasts. Whenever I wanted to see the sea I went to the sea, and when I wanted to walk I just walked along the coastal road aimlessly. On my days off I traveled alone and met many new people. Except for weekends, holidays could be set almost autonomously, so I liked being able to plan and travel freely.During this Jeju Stay period I thought I would live more freely and spontaneously rather than making detailed fixed plans.

I set off without a destination and followed wherever my feet led me; during the two months I spent in Jeju, I think I lived entirely according to what my heart wanted. Although I usually like meeting people and have no trouble socializing, one of my goals during this stay was to have time to myself.

    My recommended travel spots!

Personally, I like the sea, so I often visited many places, but the beaches at Gimnyeong and Sehwa were the best.I also like cafés, so I visited several. As I mentioned earlier,These days there are many charming and pretty cafés in Jeju, so if you like cafés, a café tour would be great.

    # Living in Jeju was a precious time in which I gained good thoughts and good memories.

During the Jeju stay, one of my plans for my free time—excluding working hours—was to get out as much as possible and go anywhere. I felt that coming all the way to Jeju for the program and spending my free time stuck at home would be a waste. When I had two days off in a week, I often made them consecutive holidays and stayed at other guesthouses. In doing so, I met dozens of people, had conversations, and was able to see many different ways of life.

Walking tens of kilometers along the seaside and having time alone was a good opportunity to reflect on myself. Above all, this was my first time traveling alone,Traveling alone at times and sometimes joining people I met while traveling, I think I learned many ways to adapt to new things. Also, I feel that much of my fear of traveling alone has disappeared and I''ve gained courage.

By meeting many people and seeing numerous value systems, and by thinking about what kind of values I hold, I was able to grow a bit more. Although I wasn''t usually very afraid of unfamiliar things, spending two months allowed me to become more mature.

Living in Jeju was a precious time in which I gained good thoughts and good memories.

After participating in the gap-year program, I became more comfortable interacting with many people,While traveling alone, deciding and acting on things by myself has become easier to be brave about.

    # Take it step by step.

Because it''s a different environment from where you''re used to living, it may feel unfamiliar and there will certainly be inconveniences. But instead of thinking negatively, I believe the most important thing is to gradually adapt to the stay while living day by day.I think so.

    My gap year is

    Experience★★★★

Living in a natural environment different from the mainland allowed me to have many new experiences.

    Learning★★★★

I met many people and also lived alone, and I was able to learn many things.

    Environment★★★★☆

There were no major differences from what I expected before participating; it felt like a typical environment.

    Safety★★★

Although the guesthouse is located toward the city center, not many people walk around after dark, so I don''t recommend going out late at night.

    Leisure★★

Because days off could be chosen freely except for weekends, I was able to travel on my days off as I wished.
