Paris, France — Gap Year Stay Review: "The Best Opportunity That Created a New Turning Point in My Life"

#Clarified career path; a new turning point in life #Experience across various fields; connections made while traveling in Europe #Motivation to pursue my dreams; expected improvement in expressiveness

  •

I''m really looking forward to meeting more wonderful people along the way during my travels and gaining inspiring ideas, and to developing the expressive skills I need to become the actor I''ve always dreamed of becoming.

    - France Paris, Gap Year Stay / Park Jae-hyun, gap-year person (gapper) / 8-week gap year

    Currently, South Korea is,

Each year, 60,000 middle and high school students drop out, 346,000 people in their twenties are idle because they have no dreams, and the job turnover rate within one year of employment has entered the 40% range,75% of university students are not satisfied with college life, and more than 80% of employees say they do not feel happy. Many people tell others to dream, but to address this problem that lacks practical methods and support, we want to bring the ''gap year'' to South Korea.

''Gap year (Gapyear)''is a time to pause studies or work, or to balance them while engaging in various activities such as volunteering, travel, internships, education, and startups,to set the direction for the future. It is a culture encouraged in the United States, Europe, Japan, and other places.

    # I needed a new stimulus because I had forgotten my dreams amid a busy daily life

Having attended elementary, middle, high school, and university, I changed majors several times and spent a lot of time worrying about my dreams. So,I always worked harder than anyone at what I was doing, but I always felt I lacked a clear certainty about my dream. So I wanted to think a lot on my own, but I kept putting it off because of my busy daily life.

Then, by chance my work had a gap and I had some free time. While thinking a lot about what I could do that would feel fresh and stimulating to me, I saw the Gap Year project ''France Paris, Gap Year Stay'' and thought I could accomplish one item on my life bucket list—living and working abroad—through this project, so I submitted an application. Then,Fortunately, Gap Year reviewed my application carefully and passed it on to the owner. The owner read my application, did a phone interview, liked me, and invited me to come, so I went.

    # Learning from the experiences of many people working in different fields

Before going, I prepared a lot of information, attended an orientation with the gap year coordinator, prepared in various ways, and set off.At first there were many difficult parts and many things were different from what I had imagined, but at the guesthouse I met many people. Among the activities,I took on guide duties and, by getting closer to more people, met many professionals from various fields. I enjoyed hearing new stories from them and consulting about many things, which allowed me to learn a lot.

As a staff member interacting with guests, I formed connections with great people working in various fields, and I even met one guest during my travels and traveled together with them. After two months of activities ended, even while traveling alone I met many people and heard travel stories and various useful information from them, which became a great opportunity to improve the quality of my trip.

    # Connections made during European travels — finding my dream for sure

Also, traveling alone and seeing famous works and architectural landmarks in various European countries brought many realizations, and traveling at a relaxed pace by myself gave me plenty of time to think about myself. It was a wonderful opportunity to rethink myself and to consider what and how I want to do in the future.

I traveled in Nice, France, then went to Barcelona, Spain, and then to Prague, Czech Republic. Currently,I''m traveling in Germany now, but Prague left many fond memories for me. I met friends there who play in a band, and we talked a lot about music and communicated with each other, so I had a really enjoyable time.

I plan to travel about two more months before returning to Korea, butI''m really looking forward to meeting more great people along the way during my travels, gaining inspiration, and developing the expressive abilities to become the actor I''ve dreamed of becoming.I''ll do my best to stay safe and incident-free during the rest of my trip so I can return to Korea safely. I''ll finish my enjoyable journey and come back well.

    # Gap year, the best opportunity that created a new turning point in my life

Before my gap yearBecause of my busy life I wasn''t able to properly reflect on my career path, but through the gap year I was able to see and feel many good things and, through much thought, consider a clearer career path.Especially staying in Paris for a long timeDuring my time there I met many people, formed new good relationships, and it was great to learn many valuable life lessons. I wanted to gain confidence in my life goals and create a new turning point in my life, and this became the best opportunity.

    My gap year was

    Experience ★★★★★

I think there are really many things to experience. The greatest advantage seems to be being able to communicate with many people, learn various new cultures, and try things firsthand.

    Learning ★★★★★

Learning new cultures seems to be very helpful for one''s career.

    Environment ★★★☆☆

There were some inconveniences and things that were different from what I expected, but I was still able to finish until the end.

    Safety ★★★★★

Safety did not pose any issues for my two months of activities in Paris.

    Leisure ★★★★☆

For leisure, after work everyone enjoyed their own relaxation time.
