It was a truly happy month full of thrilling moments. Thanks to the medical staff who helped me enter the operating room to gain a variety of experiences and taught me many things outside the operating room, giving me valuable learning opportunities, I was able to grow greatly both professionally and personally.

    Juyeon ParkA gapper''s review

Hello! I''m a college student dreaming of becoming a doctor :)

Hello, I''m Juyeon Park, currently a third-year university student in the United States dreaming of becoming a doctor.

I''ve always dreamed of becoming a doctor, but I had only taken classes at school and had never had practical experience.I wanted to directly contribute to helping people and saving lives and to find certainty about why I so desperately want this work. I also joined this project to take time to explore myself more deeply. And I was even more excited because I had read so many great reviews about medical volunteer work in Cambodia!

*Juyeon Park, who dreams of becoming a doctor, needed time to gain certainty about her career path and to get to know herself. She decided on the project with a professional consultant and resolved to start a gap year.If you want a project that''s perfect for you, I highly recommend 1:1 consultation with a gap year professional consultant!

Gap year 1:1 consulting: a definite way to change your life.

I wanted to get one step closer to my dream by experiencing it myself!

I didn''t want to stop at just dreaming; I wanted to solidify that dream by experiencing it firsthand. I also wanted to find my driving force and the reason why I so desperately want to do this, and return having gotten one step closer to my dream.

I was able to find a clear reason why I want to become a doctor.

Through valuable experiences that could never be obtained from school classes alone, I was able to learn various medical skills that will be essential when I become a doctor, making it a very meaningful time.Although language didn''t fully work, communicating with patients and their caregivers through heart and body language and watching them recover and be discharged warmed my heart and moved me greatly.. Through this experience, I was able to find a clear reason why I want to become a doctor, and I gained strong motivation to study harder in the future to become an excellent physician who helps many people. This project will surely remain a very meaningful experience for me!

I met many really good people who helped me a lot, so there wasn''t anything particularly difficult, but if I had to pick one thing, it would be the language barrier.Because Cambodian hospitals mainly use Khmer and French,, not all medical staff are fluent in English, so communication was not always smooth. However, thanks to all the medical staff warmly welcoming us and patiently explaining things step by step, we were able to overcome these difficulties well.

If I were to give a piece of advice to prospective gappers planning a Cambodia gap year at this point, "The more actively you ask questions, the more you''ll learn, so don''t hesitate to ask—ask everything you''re curious about! And don''t be afraid to take on challenges; participate courageously with excitement and anticipation!"I want to convey that. This mindset will make your experience richer and more meaningful. Challenges in a new environment will be a great foundation for your growth, so approach them with confidence!

    # I developed strong motivation and passion to truly pursue my dream of becoming a doctor.

It was a truly happy month, full of exciting, heart‑pounding moments. Thanks to the medical staff who helped me enter the operating room to gain various experiences and who taught me many things outside the OR as well, I was able to grow significantly both professionally and personally.

I will not forget the passion for the dream of becoming a doctor that I felt while seeing patients, and I will continue to do my best and keep striving to become a better doctor. :)My goal of wanting to become a doctor became clearer, and I developed strong motivation and passion to sincerely pursue the dream of becoming a doctor.

    # Cambodia medical volunteer work — this is my daily routine!

I arrived at work by 8:00 AM and worked at the hospital until 4:00 PM. Because I confidently told the doctors I wanted to work hard and kept actively helping out, I was able to learn a lot. The doctors treated me kindly and taught me generously, so each day was truly valuable.

After work, I had a great time traveling around Phnom Penh with the friends I was doing the project with.Since the friends were from various countries, I was worried at first that cultural differences might make things awkward, but after having dinner and spending time together we naturally grew closer. On weekends I left Phnom Penh and traveled to other cities, making even deeper memories.

And on the last day, with the regret of having to part, we ended up shedding tears. It was a short but precious time—an experience I will never forget. 😊
