#Career clarity, renewed life energy, awareness of discrimination #Bonding with the children, warm comfort #The moving impact of volunteering and the importance of people

At first I felt a bit awkward at the thought of being with the children, but thanks to the children taking my hand and speaking to me first and approaching me, I adapted quickly and was able to get close to them. Looking back, I think I was even more excited than the kids, doing the dances energetically and laughing as we played games. Give the gift of abundant love! # I shine the most when I''m with children.

I think I am someone who shines most when I''m with children.
Looking back on my life, I think I''ve been consistently doing work that didn''t suit my aptitude until now..Now, for my own happiness, I chose a gap year to find a new career, do what I love, and give myself time to rest :)
*For Oh Yun-hee, who was full of career concerns,an experience that could fill her with rest and confidencewas needed.Recalling the memories when she shone the most and felt happiest with children, she decided on a joyful and happy childcare volunteer program in Luang Prabang, Laos :) If you want a tailored plan for your situation, we highly recommend 1:1 consulting with a gap year specialist!
A sure way to change my life: Gap year 1:1 consulting
# I had many concerns about a career working with children.

I''ve always been very interested in activities involving children.
So, through a gap yearI wanted to experience firsthand whether working with children could be my profession, whether this work suited my aptitude, and whether I truly enjoyed it.I aimed to observe myself as much as possible.
# I am only grateful for the connections I made while volunteering in Laos childcare.

While doing childcare activities in Laos, I was deeply moved thanks to the lovable children and warm teachers.
At first, I felt a bit awkward about being with the children, but, thanks to them taking my hand and speaking to me first and approaching me, I was able to adapt quickly and become close to them.. Looking back, I think I was even more excited than the kids, energetically doing the dances, giggling and playing games.
Every day, the thought of going to meet the children always filled me with joy and anticipation.

ActuallyWhile volunteering, I went through a difficult personal situation.
In the final week of volunteering, I received news of an acquaintance''s passing and was emotionally very distressed. The teachers knew my situation, carefully observed my expression, and offered warm words of comfort. The children approached me, made eye contact and hugged me, and smiled so I wouldn''t cry. Thanks to the children and teachers who cheered me on and empathized with my situation, I think I was able to stay strong until the end. Even now When I think of the children and teachers, only gratitude and smiles come to mind :)
To everyone preparing for a gap year in Laos, Don''t be too afraid of meeting new environments and new people; be brave and take a step forward to give it a try! I hope you feel the abundant love and touching moments from the children and teachers!
# Everyone is precious and should be respected.

What I realized from volunteering is that everyone is precious and should be respected.
Living with people from many countries, I witnessed and experienced some people committing racial discrimination, and at that momentI felt that discrimination can never be tolerated, whether a country is wealthy or poor, or whether someone is old or young.
I also resolved that in the future, if I witness discrimination, I should have the courage to intervene more strongly.
# What does a day of childcare volunteering in Laos look like?

This is generally how childcare volunteering in Laos went.
(It may vary depending on the activities carried out each day, so please use this as a reference!)
7:30 ~ 8:00:Breakfast
8:50:Take a tuk-tuk and depart for the kindergarten located about 10 minutes away
9:00: After arriving at the kindergarten, greeted the children and led various activities such as art, songs with movements, and learning English numbers and colors. Afterwards assisted the children with handwashing and helped them with lunch. In particular, helped children who struggled to eat and taught them how to brush their teeth.
11:00: Rode a waiting tuk-tuk back to the accommodation and rested.
12:00: Rest after lunch.
13:50: Took the tuk-tuk again to go to the kindergarten.
14:00: Tidied the blankets of children who woke from naps, gave showers and changed their clothes, and tied the girls'' hair. Afterwards, rotated through classes 2–3 to conduct English lessons, board games, music/movement, and art activities.
16:00: Took a tuk-tuk back to the accommodation and rested.
19:00 ~ 19:30: Free time after dinner.
The day was busy and full, but the time spent with the children was enjoyable and rewarding :)
# My personal tips for preparing for childcare volunteering in Laos!

I had previously experienced living in Thailand for a month, so while preparing for childcare volunteering in Laos I felt more excitement than worry.
Since I would be working with children in Luang Prabang, I focused on choosing games and activities to do with them, and I also thought about finding materials that were as light as possible and easy to bring in quantity!
