    # I''m an office worker who took a gap year to overcome burnout and recharge!

Hello, I''m Choi Hyo-eun, who participated in the ''Master Chinese in Shanghai, the economic center of China'' program for the month of June.

I wanted to escape from my repetitive daily routine, and I chose this program because among unfamiliar places, it was headed to the familiar Shanghai, China. This was my first time staying abroad alone for an extended period, but I felt more excitement than worry hehe. I was able to prepare step by step following Gap Year’s guidance, and I went for a one-month language study and living-in-Shanghai experience!

    * Choi Hyo-eun, who worked hard, chose the project herself! If you want to leave but aren''t sure where or how to start making a change and would like a tailored plan, we strongly recommend 1:1 consulting with a Gap Year specialist!

    # Now I really feel like I can do anything.

The reason I left and the main goal of my gap year was to give my life a rest and to provide new stimulation :)

Many people can probably relate, but while working I became so exhausted I often collapsed and slept, and I couldn''t bring myself to make time to go anywhere. As life repeated like that, burnout came. I needed new stimulants and experiences in my life, so I looked for a program I could join right after quitting and found Gap Year and applied. I had always missed my short study-abroad time in Nanjing, China 11 years ago and kept thinking ''I should go again someday.'' I finally decided to really do it and went.

Before participating I had no motivation and was very mentally and physically exhausted, but as I went through the gap year program I gained confidence that I could really do anything, and above all I''m so happy to have made such wonderful memories hehe.

    # A lifestyle different from mine turned out to be exactly what my life needed!

The passion and energy of the friends I took classes with really had a good influence on me. Since I saw and spent the most time with the classmates, they became the most memorable and precious people. I especially remember an Italian friend who, upon learning I was Korean, greeted me in Korean ^.^

I''m someone who tends to be sensitive to the atmosphere and other people''s expressions and I often hold back from speaking, but the classmates exchanged their opinions comfortably. Seeing that continuously and living together, although they were younger than me, I thought they were people I truly wanted to learn from, and I remember them well!A lifestyle different from mine actually turned out to be the style I really needed!

The language study and one-month living experience in Shanghai felt short but was the necessary time I could take for a longer reset. It was enough time to recharge as I had hoped. The accommodation where I stayed was near tourist spots so I could easily see the scenery I wanted to see, which was wonderful and overwhelming.

    # Clash and experience a lot! The 15,000-steps rule!

Since it was precious time, I arrived in Shanghai with the mindset of ''let''s collide and experience a lot!'' and Shanghai seemed like a totally different world from the one I saw over ten years ago on my first visit :)

The Oriental Pearl Tower and the Bund''s night view I saw again were still beautiful, and the Chinese people I met kindly helped me and I was very grateful hehe. The streets were clean, and many people kindly offered help when I asked.

Delivery apps and shared bikes were very well set up so I used them often, and the accommodation being near a promenade was wonderful. The language institute was also nearby, and since the accommodation was near tourist spots I wanted to explore the surroundings, so many days I hit 15,000–20,000 steps as a basic count hehe. Following the 15,000-steps rule and with the bicycle I toured around cheaply and conveniently.

    # What does a day look like during a language study in Shanghai?

In my case, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I took HSK (reading) classes from 9:00 AM to 12:15 PM,

and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I had speaking classes from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM!

Outside of class hours, you could use all the time for personal plans!!

Before sunset, walking on the overpass at Lujiazui (陆家嘴) station to see the Oriental Pearl Tower and Pudong, riding a bike in Binjiang Park (滨江公园) to enjoy the scenery, and watching the sunset at the Bund (外滩) were the best.
