Rather than being passive, if you participate with just one proactive attitude, If you only think and don''t act, there will be no change. I believe that if you move first and put what you have in mind into practice one by one, good changes will naturally come.
Top value! Learn English safely in Malta in the Mediterranean! Cheon Ji-yeon''s gap year review |
Hello! I''m a working professional who has regained the precious self I was losing.

Hello, I''m Cheon Ji-yeon, who went on a gap year and came back bright and confident :)
While working,I found myself gradually losing who I was and thought I needed a break just for myselfI thought so.
I believed that the three elements—people, environment, and time—need to align for me to bring about a quick, positive change in my situation. However, I judged that it would be difficult to have all three simultaneously in Korea. Also, while taking time for change, I also wanted to improve the lacking English skills I had felt while working.
Considering a change of surroundings outside Korea, rest, and improving my English, I received consulting, and I ultimately decided to spend my gap year in Malta, where I could get plenty of rest and learn English.
*For Cheon Ji-yeon, who was very tired from working, time to rest and a positive surrounding environment to recover herself were absolutely necessary. To create effective change for Cheon Ji-yeon, we recommended a customized gap year plan through consulting :) If you want a tailored plan on where and how to start changing, we strongly recommend 1:1 consulting with a gap-year specialist!
A sure way to change your life: gap year 1:1 consulting
Expressing myself, feeling relaxed, trying diverse experiences! I''m confident in all of them now!

Because rest and change were desperately needed, I made an effort to take care of myself during the gap year. My number one priority was to express myself a lot.I kept expressing myself, expressing myself, expressing myself to build confidence and reclaim the self I had been losing.
Also,I tried to feel more ease than anxiety and to gradually grow that sense of ease. I did. Lastly,by exposing myself to various new experiences, I wanted to regain my previously bright and confident selfI did.
All these goals and methods helped me recover the self I had been losing.
I vividly felt once again that I am precious!
The best thing about staying here in Malta was, that they compliment you a lot! Reactions you don''t get in Korea!
They recognize and respect the process, so they don''t care whether the outcome is good or notI really liked the compliments you gave me.
Also,IEven when I was awkward, you patiently waited and listened attentively when I gathered the courage to share my opinions! Thanks to that, I think I was able to express myself even more :)
Lastly, that I heard every day to value myself whenever I put others firstThat''s it.It allowed me to remember once again how precious I am.

There are many people I''m grateful to who made me feel that I am a valuable person. My school teachers who became my best friends and who hope I''ll work in Europe.Foreign friends who are currently working hard to earn money for the day we''ll meet again, dreaming of traveling to each other''s countries. My Maltese little brother whom I met dramatically at school when I was feeling lonely, and the Korean ''Three Sisters'' aunties who treated my Maltese brother and me like a daughter and son and supported us in every way. I''m really thankful that they became such good connections.
# I''m happy these days to have regained a sparkling, lively, and confident look :)

After returning to Korea, whenever I meet people they all say that I''ve come back as a different person!
Before joining, I seemed low-spirited, with a dark face and a closed heart, but after participating people say I smile more, look brighter and prettier, and that my aura shines, haha.
I think that previously I considered others a bit more first,Now I have gained certainty and confidence in myself, and it seems I''ve developed the habit of taking care of and thinking of myself first.

As I''m going through these days, people I would strongly recommend this project toare.. people living abroad alone for the first timepeople, people who need a calm, restful breakpeople, people who like to travelpeople, people who want to learn English more freely rather than systematicallypeople, people who want to feel warm acceptanceare.
An active attitude rather than a passive one If you go in with just one thing, I think you can make any project your own and have a great gap year!If you only think and don''t take action, nothing will change. I believe that by moving first and putting into practice the things you think about one by one, good changes will naturally come.
# Malta language study abroad — here''s my daily routine!

I had one-on-one lessons at 8 AM, then group classes from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.
After classes, I went off to explore Malta with friends and enjoyed myself, returning to the accommodation late at night.
At that time, the accommodation became just a place where I occasionally satisfied my hunger and slept, haha.
Malta is smaller compared to other countries, so you can travel anywhere on foot or by the free public buses! I prefer being out and about rather than staying at home, so I spent three fulfilling and enjoyable months, going to places even locals know as if collecting Malta stamps. I think it''s an attractive country where, if you have the stamina, you can have a perfectly happy time. After enjoying Malta to the fullest, using weekends or holidays to visit nearby European countries like a trip to Jeju Island was also unusual and fun..

One hidden pleasure I discovered while ''collecting Malta''s spots'' is that Malta has many hiking trails.
When you think of Malta you might first picture the Mediterranean and seaside walks, but there are also many hidden hiking trails scattered around.
I made local friends in Malta and enjoyed 3–4 hour hikes day or night!
There aren''t hiking trail signs or clearly marked paths like in our country, so it can be hard to go alone at first — start hiking with friends who share your interests from near tourist spots! I''m sure you''ll find it even more charming than the coastline :)
# Tips for preparing your own Malta language-study gap year!

It''s ''Power J'' I prepared everything one by one, going over the materials Gap Year sent me starting a month before departure.
I prepared so perfectly in advance that the consultant was actually worried, but the process was exciting and enjoyable for me because it was a time to prepare for my own change ☺
Especially since it was my first time living abroad and the period wasn''t short, I switched on my worry-mode in real time and worried a lot. However, I actually did so well that I wondered why I had worried, and it''s no secret I wanted to stay longer! ☺
Worry less — I think it''s enough to prepare the necessary things step by step!
(Language)
: It''s good to study the basics to some extent and to have your speaking somewhat opened up before you go~ Of course you''ll learn at school, but it''s better for yourself than going in with a mindset of learning from scratch :) Since classmates assigned to the same class are usually at similar levels, I think if you''re placed in a lower class your skills won''t improve much.If you want to use and learn more English, it''s very helpful to level up a bit before going.English improves the more you use it, and the more you get close to and talk with friends, the more your English improves. If you become close with roommates or classmates and meet their friends, you can actively make friends and improve your English skills!
(Accommodation)
: If you get along well with the people you live with, you naturally become closer and can make lots of good memories! Except for your room, all spaces are shared, so you''ll frequently run into your housemates. That means you can fully enjoy alone time in your room, and outside you can spend time talking with friends as much as you want.
On the other hand, while you can have various experiences with foreign friends in shared accommodation, sometimes if communication makes it hard to resolve differences with your housemates, you might think about moving. It''s a lifestyle difference — in Korea people are often used to living alone, so living with someone can be exciting but also a bit uncomfortable. If you''re staying long-term, I recommend using a single room.

(Meals)
: Ingredients are cheap and you can get closer by cooking together with friends, so it''s a great environment to live in! It''s okay if you''ve never cooked or aren''t good at it. Haha. Foreign friends also try recipes from YouTube and you can make delicious creative dishes together. One caution and tip: rather than buying and storing ingredients all at once, it''s better to make a bit of exercise of going to the supermarket (Lidl/Welbis/Greens) often and buy only the ingredients you need each time. Malta''s weather is quite warm, so ingredients wilt, spoil, or grow mold quickly.
(Packing list)
: I hope you didn''t spend too much time imagining ''what if'' scenarios in advance!Your suitcase will naturally exceed the weight limit, and once there you might not use some items, forget about things you packed, give them to friends when leaving, throw them away, or just leave them behind.Just pack the items you were familiar with and used frequently in Korea.Even if you buy this and that because it''s a new place, if it''s nonessential or for an extra purpose, you''re unlikely to use it.
Be sure to buy travel insurance!I recommend getting it. I don''t usually get injured so I thought I wouldn''t get hurt, but I got injured there and was flustered. The insurer coordinated with a local hospital, guided me and handled everything, so I could receive treatment comfortably and recover well — I was really relieved. It''s good to match the insurance period to your gap year, but since you might travel after your gap year or use vacations to travel, it''s better to allow a generous insurance period!
I''m sharing a list of items that I found convenient or inconvenient to have or not have, since I prepared carefully. Again, I recommend not imagining too much in advance! Please note this is my personal opinion :)

# My Malta language-study gap year was!

Experience ★★★★★
: Malta was the perfect country for experiences — a country made for, by, and about experience!
Learning ★★★★★
: There was a free and relaxed atmosphere, so I could naturally approach learning on my own, and eventually I became more proactive.
Environment ★★★★
:It was an environment that delighted the five senses, so I could comfortably awaken my senses to the fullest! Surprisingly, the streets can be dirty, so your shoes can get dirty quickly.
Safety ★★★★★
: While staying in Malta, I discovered the charm of taking walks along the coast at night and at dawn. I had no use for the lock; it just stayed in my luggage.
Leisure ★★★★★
: Even if I packed my time with activities, I still had free time left! I had so much leisure time that I had to plan what to do with it :)
