#Boosted self-esteem and regained passion #Realization of true happiness #The thought that I can endure because of good memories

|
It gave me an opportunity to think in many ways about what true happiness is. I realized that if you are satisfied with what you have, live diligently, and are warm and kind to those around you, you can be happy at any time. It was such a good experience that I can hold on for a while with these memories.
An island with beautiful sunsets! A special overseas volunteer trip to Bali, Indonesia! A review from a gapper who requested anonymity. |
# Hello! I am a college student who went on a one-week overseas volunteer gap year!

Hello! I am a college student who took a leave of absence and went to Bali for a one-week overseas volunteer trip.
I felt lethargic and my self-esteem was very low because my studies in Korea weren''t going well, so I felt I needed new energy.
Then, I learned about Korea Gap Year through YouTube and was drawn to the interesting programs, so I applied for consulting!
After consulting with a gap year consultant and receiving a recommendation, I participated in the Bali English-education volunteer program.
* For the anonymous gapper who wanted to recover self-esteem and overcome lethargy, activities to discover a new version of themselves, and activities to gain diverse experiences, etc.
Personalized 1:1 individual missions were provided daily, and a Gap Year Note to reflect on oneself and make plans was also provided.
>> Participation fee 100 KRW! Go to the Gap Year mission
# I wanted to rebuild my broken self-esteem and regain my passion.

By being placed in an unfamiliar environment through overseas volunteering, I wanted to understand myself as I am and raise my lowered self-esteem,
and I wanted to gain the passion to study again.
Even though I applied in a hurry, Gap Year took care of everything thoroughly so I could depart without any problems,
and the local organization also took good care of me, so I was able to complete the overseas volunteer work safely :)
# I learned what true happiness is.

Just being in such a peaceful natural environment was healing,
I was truly happy because the villagers were all happy and warm people.
They all worked hard, but they never lost their smiles and kindness, and I could feel their love for family, neighbors, and their village.

The overseas volunteer work gave me an opportunity to think in many ways about what true happiness is.
Being satisfied with what you have and living diligently,If you treat the people around you warmly and kindly
I also came to realize that I can be happy in any situation.
It was such a good experience that I can rely on this memory for a while to get through things.
# I regained my energy and determination!

All the villagers have a great passion for learning, but because their circumstances were poor and they had stopped learning, even being taught small things
made them very grateful and happy. Through seeing that,I was able to recharge my vitality and determination.

In particular, local friends my age were living lives completely different from peers in Korea,
and it was moving to see them find happiness and stability within that.
I reflected on how I had lost my gratitude and passion, and experienced many emotions.Seeing how they know how to enjoy their environment as it is,
I was greatly motivated to do my best in my own position.
I resolved that when I return to Korea I will pursue my goals again.
# What''s a typical day in Bali like?

In the morning I woke up to watch the sunrise at 6, had breakfast at 7, and from 8 to 9 conducted one hour of English mentoring.
Until 11 I experienced the life of a villager who had received English mentoring, and then I had free time until 2.
From 2 to 3 I had mentoring again, 3 to 5 was activities/experiences, and after that it was free time.
# Tips for preparing your own overseas volunteer gap year!

- Language
: The locals mainly used Balinese, but English worked well enough, so there were no communication problems.
I think studying only English will be sufficient!
- Accommodation
: It was generally clean, but due to the local environment there are many insects, so be sure to bring insect repellent.
The accommodation provides necessary towels and a hairdryer, so you don''t need to bring them from Korea!
- Meals
: I mainly ate meals provided by the organization. The people who provided the meals were really kind,
they always asked if there was anything I wanted to eat, and if you request a local dish you want they''ll prepare it sincerely.
- Things to bring
: Because there are many insects, be sure to bring ointment for insect bites and insect repellent. The sunlight is also very strong, so sunglasses are a must!
And if you have the means, I recommend bringing small gifts to share with the villagers.
In my case, I received so much care from the villagers that I was truly grateful, but I felt guilty the whole time that I hadn''t brought anything to give them.
There is a convenience store nearby, so you can buy what you need right away — you don''t need to worry too much about supplies.

# My Bali English Education Overseas Volunteer Gap Year!
Experience ★★★★★
Beyond English teaching volunteer work, I learned a lot through environmental protection activities and cultural experiences, and it was a valuable experience that made me reflect on my own life.
Learning ★★★★☆
I learned a lot, but during the time I went there I didn''t have the opportunity to meet multinational volunteers.
You can gain a different kind of learning from the locals, so if I participate again I''d definitely like to meet volunteers from other countries too!
Environment ★★★★☆
It''s in nature, so it''s fresh and clean. Bringing insect repellent products will make things much more comfortable.
Safety ★★★★★
I was able to stay safe because I spent all my time with the villagers and lived alongside them.
Leisure ★★★★☆
Because it''s a rural village, there aren''t many things to do after sunset. However, thanks to that I was able to have more conversations with the locals and we grew closer.
