# Hello. I am a 30-something office worker who went to Cebu for language study through a gap year!

Hello, I''m a 30-something office worker.A new goal came up, so I had been balancing work and study; as my studies were finishing and my job contract ended, I suddenly had time and decided to join a Cebu language-study gap year! :)
* For Kang Hyun-jin, who wanted to improve his English skills and have experiences that break his own mold,Activities that offered new experiences and tailored 1:1 personal missions to properly set future life plans were provided daily, and a Gap Year Note for self-reflection and planning was also given.
# I realized I needed English for the new goal!

The reason I joined the Cebu language program was that while preparing for a new goal I felt the need to study English,Considering financial aspects, schedule, and class format, I thought Gap Year''s Philippine language-study project was the most suitable given the various circumstances, so I chose it.
Also, I naturally like traveling, and the life I want in the future involves going abroad and living while directly communicating with the locals, so I was filled with anticipation before this experience!
# Preparations before leaving for the Cebu language study!

I packed and exchanged currency referring to the orientation and preparation materials sent by Korea Gap Year.I checked the website of the local language school where I''d take classes and also looked up reviews from people who had gone before while preparing. haha
# I had three goals I wanted to achieve through this language-study gap year!
I had three goals I wanted to achieve during this Cebu language-study gap year!
First, to build confidence in English; second, to try to change my introverted personality a bit by approaching people first; and finally, to obtain a scuba diving certification.

So now that I''ve returned from the language study, unlike before, I''m continuing to study English bit by bit without dropping it. I still occasionally keep in touch with the foreign friends I met there, and that keeps me motivated, haha.
And rather than worrying and being anxious, I started doing what I can now and having hope that things will go well — my attitude toward life became more positive after the Cebu language-study gap year.
# Meeting many good people while staying in Cebu and making great memories with them is, I think, a blessing in my life.

People in the Philippines are generally very smiley, lively, laugh a lot, and find joy in small things. Of course, some people here also live very competitively and there are bad people too.
But the people I met were considerate of one another, valued time with their families, and had kind smiles.I think that meeting many good people while living and studying English in Cebu and making great memories with them is a blessing in my life.
# My Cebu travel recommendations!

1. Nalusuan Island
The Philippines really has such beautiful seas. I went as a school activity, so it was a day trip, and I did introductory scuba diving and snorkeling. I already liked the sea, but I liked it even more this time! If you''re getting a scuba diving certification, I recommend getting up to the Advanced level.
2. Siargao Island
It''s about a 50-minute flight away, and there were hardly any Koreans to be found. I went for two nights and three days, tried surfing for the first time in my life, took photos of the stars for the first time, and really spent my time without worries. Even if you don''t surf, it''s such a great place you''d want to live there for a month!
# My Cebu language-study preparation TIPS!

- Language
I recommend studying at least basic grammar a bit before leaving for a language study program! Even grammar you know can become confusing when classes are taught in English.
- Accommodation
I think a 4-person room is better than a 3-person room! The space is a bit larger and even had a balcony. And if you request a clean-room service, they''ll clean the room for you, and you can use Wi‑Fi in common areas like the dining hall, café, study room, and gym!
- Meals
They serve many dishes similar to Korean food! I heard they even make kimchi themselves. The japchae is delicious! There''s always some kind of soup, and fruit and vegetables are served, and for breakfast there was bread, cereal, milk, and drinks.
- What to bring
There is air conditioning indoors, so I definitely recommend bringing long-sleeved clothes! Also, I brought a scratch book with Korean scenery as a hobby project; after finishing it I wrote letters inside and gave them as gifts to local or foreign friends, and they really liked it! It might be good to bring simple gifts or souvenirs.

My Cebu language-study gap year is!
Experience★★★★★
Through this Cebu language-study gap year I had many experiences that I could never have imagined in Korea!
Learning★★★★
: I think English depends on how much effort you put into it. For me, living in another country itself was a big learning experience, not just studying English! haha
Environment/Safety ★★★★
: There were many government offices nearby, and I could see a lot of police officers. It was quite safe!
