#It became easier to approach foreigners #An understanding of diverse cultures #Relaxed and refreshed by the pleasant weather and laid-back atmosphere

- Experience ★★★★
:Leaving Korea and living abroad for a few months was a big experience in itself. It was easy to travel to other European countries, so I met many international friends and traveled around.
- Learning ★★★★
:I was able to meet friends from many countries and indirectly hear about and learn their cultures.
Of course I also improved my English while staying there, and I lost much of my fear about using languages when traveling.
- Environment ★★★
: It''s relatively clean compared to other parts of Europe. They do recycling and the main streets are generally tidy, but there are some alleys with trash.
- Safety ★★★★★
: It''s much safer compared to other parts of Europe. Of course, very late at night it''s not as brightly lit as in Korea so it could be dangerous, but
There were many women who came alone, and I often saw women walking alone at night with earphones in.
I haven''t heard any stories about pickpocketing.
- Leisure ★★★★★
: There is plenty of free time, and in summer you can go to the sea and swim. There are also many pubs nearby, places to visit, and alcohol is inexpensive.
Hello. I''m 25-year-old Kim Yongjun. Before transferring schools, I had a short amount of free time and I thought a lot about what to do.
I thought it would be better to go abroad even for a short time and gain many experiences rather than staying in Korea, so I took a gap year.
I chose it because the cost of living is cheaper than in other parts of Europe, the safety is good, and the weather is nice.
It''s also good for traveling to other countries. Also, Malta exempts vaccinated people from self-quarantine, which was another reason I chose it.
Actually, before going abroad I was living a very busy life in Korea, so I didn''t really think much about living overseas.
And I always thought that no matter where I was, I probably wouldn''t starve to death, so I wasn''t overly worried.
I think I only prepared plane tickets, money, clothes, insurance, and some documents. The gap year program provided an orientation, so I was able to prepare easily.
My goals were to wander around different places, make foreign friends, and spend my time leisurely.
I didn''t expect to change dramatically in just two months, so I didn''t have any big goals. And I think I achieved those goals well.
In the morning I went to school and returned at 12:30. On public holidays school ends at 1:00 PM. After that, it was all free time.
My school was in Valletta, so I always walked there. Sometimes I ate with friends, zoned out, wandered around, did housework, and did homework.
Overall the weather was very nice, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the gardens were well kept, so just sitting quietly on a bench was healing.
It was a time to learn more about myself and a time when I could learn about various cultures.
I was always around foreigners. At first, using only English was tiring and exhausting, but after three weeks I adapted and it was fine.
I met many foreign friends and quite a lot of Japanese people.
Since I was the only Korean, I had many opportunities to hear about, see, and experience foreign cultures, and I got to know many Japanese people.
I definitely recommend treating your foreign friends to Korean food. I think you''ll be able to create many memories.
Also, I hope you make lots of friends. At first it isn''t easy to approach people, but they''re just people too.
If you take the first step and approach them, you can become close easily, so if you muster the courage to start a conversation you''ll be able to build many good experiences.
Foreigners definitely became more interested in Korean culture, so it was easier to get close to them.
Malta: San Anton Gardens, Hastings Gardens, Marsaxlokk Market, Dingli Cliffs, Popeye Village, Mdina, 3 Cities
Gozo Island: Sanap Cliffs, Azure Window
Sicily: Syracuse, Catania, Modica
(The island is so large and there is so much food and so much to see thatI recommend planning a long itinerary and renting a car to get around. Everyone was very friendly and pleasant!)
