Hello! I''m Kim Minyoung, who finished the first semester of my sophomore year and took a gap year with language study in Cebu!

Hello! I''m 21-year-old Kim Minyoung, who finished the first semester of my sophomore year and participated in the Philippines Cebu language-study gap year program!
While attending university, I had difficulty approaching people and was spending each day feeling listless. Then I learned about the ''gap year,'' and through a gap-year 1:1 consulting program, based on the consultant''s recommendation, I decided on a Cebu language study as a gap year tailored just for me.
I joined the Cebu language-study project because I wanted to take this opportunity to get away from daily life and spend time solely for myself.
*For Kim Minyoung, who wanted relaxed time and time to think about and grow towards her future, daily customized 1:1 personal missions were provided, including activities to enjoy relaxed time and time to consider and set the direction of her future life, and a gap-year notebook was also provided to reflect on herself and make plans.
I wanted to show myself through this gap year that it''s okay to live with a little more ease!

First, through this gap year I wanted to fix my tendency to not approach people and let myself know that it''s okay to be gentler with the self who pushes herself too hard.
Also, by trying new activities during the Cebu language-study period that I wouldn''t easily try in Korea, I wanted to instill in myself the message: don''t hesitate, just try!
During the Cebu language-study period, I met so many people and was able to broaden my way of thinking!

Through this gap year I realized that I am a much more remarkable and decent person than I thought, that I have more initiative than I expected, and that I enjoy taking on new challenges.
The best part of coming to the city of Cebu and doing a language study was that I could converse in English on equal footing with people of various countries and ages,By listening to their opinions, I was able to further expand the narrow box that my thoughts were trapped in.
The people I met in Cebu!

My second and last roommate, Taiwanese Ning; Danbi unni, who spoke to me when I couldn''t approach others on the first day and always acted as a great mentor; Gayun unni and Hyojeong unni; Yoshino, who treated people positively even though it was just two weeks; and Mafe, who was my Reading & Writing teacher and shared the same hobbies and was like a friend! It was a rewarding time because I met many wonderful people regardless of age during the Cebu language-study period!
Since returning from Cebu, people around me have been telling me that I''ve really changed a lot!

Before joining the gap year, I used to be someone who was overly aware of others'' opinions, didn''t smile much, and kept worrying, but after participating in the gap year program, I feel less concerned about others'' judgment and much less sensitive!
As I implement things I used to only worry about and couldn''t act on, people around me often say that my vibe has changed. So I think I''ve started to view everything in terms of what helps my own growth rather than comparing to others! :)
What is a day like in the Cebu language-study project?

To briefly describe a day during my Cebu language study program,
In the morning, from 8:40 I had 1st period reading & writing, 2nd period special class (movie), lunch (11:45 AM–1:00 PM),
then 3rd period listening & speaking, 4th period discussion class, and 5th period special class.
According to the school''s rules, new students are supposed to take Sparta classes morning and evening for the first month after enrollment, but Iskipped them to concentrate more on other classes.
My personal Cebu travel recommendations!

A small travel tip: if you''re going alone to get a scuba diving certification, Lapu-Lapu City in the Cebu area has many Korean restaurants, so if you have time I recommend visiting the Lapu-Lapu area.
Also, although I haven''t been myself, an older guy in my class who went to Bohol highly recommended trying snorkeling. If you do it in Bohol, you may even be able to swim with sea turtles!! haha

My personal gap year preparation tips!

- Language
: Rather than staying quiet because you can''t speak English, it''s better to use a translator and keep trying to talk with friends! :)
- Accommodation
: Air conditioning can be strong indoors, so I recommend buying a blanket locally to use while living there!
- What to bring
: You''ll need a thick comforter and thin cardigans, and I recommend buying mosquito repellent locally in Cebu!

My gap year was!
Experience★★★★
: It was an opportunity to feel comfortable approaching people!
Learning/Leisure★★★
: In Cebu, it was an environment where you could use English comfortably regardless of age or gender.
