Doing exciting environmental conservation volunteer work in New Zealand''s nature with friends from around the world
Q. Please indicate your satisfaction with the projectPlease let us know. If you are satisfied, what did you like?
A. 10/10
This project, which has a long history of cultivating the environment, being able to contribute to it
was motivating and made me feel rewarded. Also, living together with foreign friends for all three meals
I was able to learn and feel many things. And on weekends, staying together at the weekend accommodation with
the same volunteer team leader andwhen we traveled together on our own, to places we would never have known about or been able to go to,
traveling, experiencing, and listening to explanations together made for a very, very enjoyable and beneficial timeIt was.
Q. Would you recommend this project?
A.10points/10 points
As mentioned above, this is an extremely good project. It is not a shabby volunteer activity, but one that has continued for a long time,
Hearing the explanation that you become part of New Zealand, which places the highest importance on the environment, and help preserve the environment,
it really gave me a sense of reward and motivation. And over the course of a day, two days, or several days with the team,
when I saw the traces of our volunteer work, although the plants haven''t grown yet, I felt really proud.
Also, while doing environmental conservation volunteer work, I learned a lot about plants—their species, characteristics, history, etc. The team leader and manager always kindly provided many explanations. And living together with unfamiliar foreigners by yourself is, in a way,an experience you can''t have in Korea and could be a difficult experience, but
I recommend it because when you take on the challenge there are many things to learn, feel, and realize.I recommend it.
Q. If there was any change in you after participating in this project?
I realized that my belief that I was good at English was actually arrogance,
and it motivated me to study English. I could say what I wanted to say and understand what others were saying without much trouble, so daily communication with foreigners wasn''t a problem, but
When chatting with those friends or having long conversations about a topic,
Their intonations and pronunciations were all different (my friends were from Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, the UK, and France), and their slang and abbreviations often made communication difficult.
If you speak English at a native level, I think you could learn and gain even more.
Foreign friendsa willingness to listen whenever someone speaksThey had that attitude.
I was able to learn this attitude as well, and the biggest change was that my foreign friends
when they asked about our country, I realized my own shortcomings. That is.
Among the conversations I had with foreign friends, we talked about differences, similarities, funny things, and so on about their countries.
In fact, sharing about one''s own country seems to be the main topic you can communicate about.
It seems to be the biggest topic when talking with foreigners. But when it came to introducing Korea,
I felt my own shortcomings in introducing Korea and
felt that I needed to study more about our country.
Q. Do you have any final comments you''d like to make?
I would like to thank the person who created this project, and I am very, very grateful to the Korea Gap Year staff who allowed me to participate in this project,
and from before the project started
until its conclusion, for continuously providing information and taking care of us via email,
I want to express my sincere thanks to the Korea Gap Year team.Thank you once again.
There was nothing uncomfortable, but if I were to give advice whether you go in winter or summer,
I would say to definitely bring a backpack. When living in the accommodation during the volunteer period,
they don''t provide blankets separately. However, in my case, since it was winter,
I was able to use a heater.
Also, having to prepare all three meals with foreign ingredients, unlike in Korea,
was a little disconcerting. Other friends always cooked and ate that food as their staple,
so they were accustomed to it and it would be easy to cook, but at first I was flustered.
Butif you keep trying to cook together and ask questions, you can adapt easilythat''s the case.
