#Changed to a more proactive and self-directed personality #Confidence in being able to do things on my own and a sense of rest #Pride and happiness from overcoming fear
I was so happy during my gap year in the beautiful city of Lisbon, Portugal! In such a beautiful city, I ate a lot of delicious food and enjoyed relaxing time; it was truly wonderful. And above all, through experiences where I could challenge myself, I gained a lot of confidence in myself!
A special volunteer experience in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Lisbon, Portugal! Hanna Park, gap year participant (gapper), 24 years old

# I wanted to relieve the fatigue I had built up, so I took a leave of absence and joined the gap year project!

Hello! My name is Hanna Park. I am 24 years old and a university student. With one year left until graduation, I wanted to do something meaningful before graduating from college, and,I chose to take a leave of absence because I wanted to recover from being worn out by a busy schedule, and I joined the Portugal volunteer travel gap year project!
* For Ms. Hanna Park, who wanted new experiences and complete rest,Activities to enjoy with foreign friends and a customized one-on-one personal mission for new experiences and rest were provided daily, and a gap year notebook to reflect on oneself and make plans was also provided.
# The reason I chose the Portugal volunteer project!

There were actually many reasons I chose the Lisbon, Portugal volunteer travel project.
The first reason was safety. It was my first time traveling alone, so I had a lot of fears and worries about safety. Portugal is known to be relatively safe within Europe, and I believed that going through a gap year project would be even safer.
The second reason was that I could meet and interact with a variety of foreign friends. When I traveled abroad before, I spent time with the Korean friends I went with and rarely had the chance to make local foreign friends, which was a pity. But through this project, I could meet and become close not only with local foreign friends through volunteering but also with friends who came on volunteer trips from other countries, which I loved!!
# If I had only hesitated and not gone, I wouldn''t have had such a great experience!

I had a free travel period right before the Portugal volunteer project, so the preparations I made specifically for the project werestudying the orientation materials that Korea Gap Year carefully sent one by one and purchasing travel insurance, that was about it for my departure preparations.
To be honest, I was quite worried at first. I had many concerns about whether the food would suit my taste and whether I would get along with the people I met there, and right before departure I often thought about not going because I was scared.
HoweverOnce I actually left, it was really great! As for safety, if I was careful and paid attention, I could get around safely; I met many really nice people, and I got to try many foods that were both interesting and delicious. These are things I would have almost missed out on if I had only hesitated and not gone!
# The goals I wanted to achieve through the Portugal volunteer project were!

First of all, a little moreI wanted to live more proactively and take initiative.Going on a trip alone and having to handle everything that happened during the trip by myself felt like a kind of challenge to me. It was a little scary and worrisome, but it was definitely rewarding and a unique experience.
And I wanted to see many pretty things, eat lots of delicious food, and get away from my daily life to rest a little.Looking back, during my time in Portugal I was able to break away from the studies, assignments, and projects I had been doing, try new things, and take plenty of rest amid beautiful scenery!
# I gained certainty and confidence in myself through new experiences!

Through this volunteer trip project to Portugal, I really gained a great deal of certainty and confidence in doing things on my own!My fear of traveling alone has decreased a lot, and I feel like I can do anything on my own.
