#Deepened love for animals and developed a greater passion for volunteering #Experience rescuing rare wild animals and making friends from diverse nationalities #Passion for volunteering and the joy of learning new things

  •

Through this experience in Singapore, I wanted to meet many people and make lots of friends.

While volunteering to care for wild animals, I naturally learned a lot about the country of Singapore,

and my love for animals deepened a bit.

Volunteering to rescue rare wild animals that were physically and emotionally injured in Singapore

Jang Duhyeon — Gap Year gapper (27 years old)

    # I applied after becoming interested while looking for animal-related volunteer work.

Hello, I am Jang Duhyeon, participating in the Gap Year project for the second time following my previous 4-week participation in the project ''Save the Turtles in Zakynthos, Greece — the place from "Descendants of the Sun"!''.

I applied for this project after becoming interested while searching for animal-related volunteer opportunities.Recalling the shortcomings and good points from my previous Gap Year volunteer work, I packed the necessary items and departed for Singapore.

    * For Jang Duhyeon, who wanted to make friends of various nationalities and seek different experiences, daily missions to actively meet a variety of people, personalized 1:1 individual missions for new experiences and challenges were provided, and a Gap Year notebook to reflect on himself and make plans was also provided.

Also, by waiting for contact until late at night and talking with those who went to rescue animals, I felt their passion for volunteering. Through the two volunteer experiences, I think I learned how to volunteer more enjoyably without overexerting myself.

    # What is the daily routine like in Singapore?

We gather at the dining hall at 9 AM and travel to the volunteer center with people from various parts of Singapore. After that, we get started in earnestWe cleaned the animals'' enclosures and prepared meals together with foreign friends and staff. After that, we had lunch and from 2 to 5 did similar volunteer work as in the morning. After work, we had free time.

    # Was there anyone memorable while volunteering for Singapore''s wildlife?

When it''s time for volunteering, there was always a leader-like person who guided us, and though brief, they let us participate in rescue activities, and that person is the most memorable. We shared similar interests in music, had many conversations, and I especially remember enjoying chatting while playing the guitar.

So my top recommendation is: if you come with someone who shares the same accommodation, be sure to get close and go visit many places around Singapore! You''ll make lots of memories!

    # My personal Singapore living TIP!

    - Language

: It might be a little hard to understand at first, but you''ll get used to it in about a week, so don''t worry too much.

    - Accommodation

: I stayed in a four-person room by myself, so it was spacious and I liked it.

    - Meals

: The meals were truly excellent — tasty and plentiful. However, dinner is served a bit early, so you might get a little hungry late at night.

    - Singapore attractions

: Singapore''s Marina Bay Sandsand the surrounding area is really beautiful, Make sure to see the laser show!

    - What to bring

: Travel insurance, and if mosquitoes stress you out, be sure to bring insect repellent!!

    My gap year was

    experience ★★★

: It was an experience where I learned how to handle injured animals and how to prepare their meals.

    Learning ★★★

: I was able to gain passion for and knowledge about animals.

    Environment ★★★★

: It was the best environment, except for sometimes being too hot.

    Safety ★★★★★

: Singapore was a really safe country!

    Leisure ★★★★★

: Because Singapore is a city-state, you can go anywhere easily and quickly if you want. Thanks to that, even though my stay was short, I was able to visit all of Singapore''s famous tourist spots.
