PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

In Greece, Seniors are going to learn and having a great time together with you through social activities, services, education, and various projects provided for senior welfare. In addition, it plays a role in helping people with physical disabilities live their live

60% of jobs 10 years from now haven’t even been created yet” - Futurist Thomas Frey

In the <United Nations Future Report 2025> published by the 'United Nations Future Forum', a gathering of over 4,500 futurists and future experts from around the world, the future. 54 occupations  were introduced, including “dementia therapist” in the medical welfare field.

About 47% of current jobs will disappear within 20 years” - Professors Carl Frey and Michael Osborne of Oxford University

Korea is already facing a 'super-aging society' in the shortest period of time among OECD countries, with approximately 6.6 million elderly people as of 2015. The number is expected to increase approximately 2.4 times in 25 years to 16 million in 2040, which is one out of three of Korea's total population. This means that an era is coming where  each person is over 65 years old. Accordingly, experts recommend a healthy lifestyle for the elderly.  Advised that jobs such as responsible ‘old age planner’ or ‘bio healthcare expert’ would be promising jobs.

Possibility for advancement is more important than pay or job stability when choosing this job.”

It is expected that we will become an aged society in 2018 and a super-aged society in 2026. Medical care as the elderly population increases and living standards improve. As the demand for services and welfare services is increasing, health and welfare-related occupations are expected to play an increasingly important role in future society is expected .

►1. KGY Coordinator Personally traveled to establish Internship Opportunities previously non-existent for Korean students!

This internship opportunity stems from the initiative of a gap year planner who embarked on a personal visit to Greece. Upon exploring the region firsthand, they recognized the immense potential for Korean students to benefit from internships here. Through persuasive efforts, they successfully liaised with the responsible authorities. Engaging local medical and senior major students, the program immediately immerses them in practical fieldwork, facilitating genuine hands-on experience within the Greek welfare system. It's not merely about formal training or basic assistance; it's a chance to truly engage and learn.

► 2. Opportunity to experience a promising job 10 years from now and see if it will suit you and choose your career path!

In the ever-evolving landscape of our times, it's widely acknowledged that nearly half of the existing job market will undergo transformation, paving the way for new opportunities. With this impending shift, the need for proactive preparation becomes paramount, wouldn't you agree? Yet, amidst the anticipation of promising yet-to-arrive roles, many find themselves at a loss regarding where to begin and how to equip themselves adequately.

Consider the plight of individuals who invest substantial time and resources into preparation, only to grapple with uncertainty about the suitability of their chosen career path upon attainment. Particularly noteworthy are occupations endorsed by the United Nations Future Forum, an assembly of forward-thinking visionaries from across the globe. It stands to reason that experiencing these roles firsthand prior to their widespread adoption could serve as a prudent means to chart one's future trajectory, wouldn't you say?

► 3. Among OECD countries, Greece ranks first in spending on welfare for the elderly and the best country for seniors to live in!

Imagine a nation where elderly communities thrive, where seniors radiate vibrant smiles and exude an aura of leisure. Immersing yourself in the senior culture of a developed country distinct from our own promises to expand your horizons significantly. Such firsthand experience not only enriches your perspective but also proves invaluable in securing employment within various fields related to senior care, which are poised for significant growth in our nation's future.

Moreover, this opportunity extends beyond personal development; it beckons us to contemplate strategies for enhancing senior welfare globally. With populations aging not only in Korea but across the world, this is our chance to contribute to the discourse on improving the quality of life for seniors internationally, perhaps even exploring opportunities for overseas employment in the process.

Q: Are nurses, physical therapists, and psychotherapists required to have a related major or basic knowledge?

Anyone can participate as a general assistant intern regardless of qualifications .

Psychotherapist Intern

Art therapy using music and art provides psychological stability and helps maintain long-term and short-term memory by using unused muscles. You will study psychotherapy for a long time and learn  professional psychotherapy methods by assisting an experienced psychotherapist .

Assistant Intern

You will be helping with necessary tasks at a senior welfare facility without requiring any specialized knowledge. We assist with meals for those who have difficulty eating, assist with transportation for those with limited mobility, and assist with their needs before and after receiving treatment.

Program Coordinator's GO -TO TIP

Participants mainly work with the elderly within the institution and also work with other institution staff and psychologists. Some employees speak English, but if you study Greek, the local language, in advance, it will be a great help in communicating with the elderly! Additionally, this project is being operated so that participants can use their activity time independently. Before participating in the project, we recommend that you prepare a proactive attitude and mindset!

PROGRAM PROVIDER INTRODUCTION

INSTITUTION INTRODUCTION

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE INSTITUTION

It is an organization that focuses on providing medical and welfare for patients with dementia with a system that allows them to stay for the longest period of time among senior welfare institutions in Greece. In particular, for patients with dementia, we are paying attention to the interior and detail of the welfare center itself every season so that they can recognize the new environment.

In the medical field, we help seniors improve their dementia through specialized medical treatments such as healing through music, projects for leisure activities through various activities, functional occupational therapy to help seniors live independently in their daily lives, cognitive training projects for memory, and psychological treatment counseling. It is a place where we evaluate the project process every year and continue to conduct research for a better environment and project.

ACCOMMODATION

ACCOMMODATION INTRODUCTION

Participants are free to choose accommodation within the internship location to suit their personal tastes and budget. For project participants who have difficulty finding accommodation, Korea Gap Year recommends accommodations (guesthouses/hotels, etc.) near the internship site.)

HOMESTAY

International students can learn the culture and language of the country by staying in the general households of the country where they are staying. It is a type of accommodation that allows them to live with their families, develop their language skills through communication, and understand their lifestyle and the values and cultural styles of the people in that country.

GUESTHOUSE

The Guesthouse option is characterized by a shared kitchen, bathroom, and shower. One room is assigned to a 4-person room, or even 6-8-person rooms, and several friends live in the same room. When we travel to other countries for a short time, we stay in a guest house and share travel information with various travelers through short meetings.

APARTMENT SHARE

Apartment Share is a type of accommodation in which about 5 to 6 international students living abroad rent a house and live together in that house. Depending on the condition of your home, you can choose a private room or share a room with one friend. Unlike homestay, you share housework such as eating, cleaning, and washing with your friends, not a form of home. It has the advantage of being able to hang out with friends from various countries.

PROGRAM LOCATION INTRODUCTION

LOCATION INTRODUCTION

Callimera! The place where you can hear the pleasant greeting

Kalimera! (HELLO -Greeting Form in Greece)

Imagine you hear a pleasant greeting as you walk down the streets of Greece. Greece is a country with an optimistic natural nationality, friendly and gentle with foreigners without racial prejudice. It has a relaxed and relaxed atmosphere, perhaps because of the Greek salad sprinkled with goat milk cheese, fresh vegetables, and olive oil, or because of the quality wine.

Also, Greece's seniors, who rank No. 1 in the best country for seniors to live in, are generally pleasant and relaxed. As Greece has the largest welfare spending for seniors among OECD countries, the silver town is already fully established. As a result, the country is enjoying its own culture. It will also be a fun experience to listen to Greek seniors about Greek and Roman mythology that they read when they were young.

Visit Greece, which has a white house and a sky blue roof and is in harmony with the blue sky, to enjoy your leisure and freedom!
