Established in 1997 as a non-profit organization in Cambodia, we have been working to promote the development of Cambodian civil society. We strive to create a better society and, in cooperation with various organizations, aim for the sustainable growth of women, youth, and local communities. In 2014, our activities were recognized by the World NGO Association, and we received an award.

The organizations participating in this project aim to revitalize Cambodia's rural communities by delivering new knowledge to local areas and helping residents realize their potential. Please join us in achieving our vision of rural communities escaping poverty and building resilient, growing communities.

A message from the local organization representative

I'm Mey, the coordinator who manages the local volunteers. I have run this program for many years and have worked with a wide variety of foreign volunteers. What I most want to tell volunteers is: do not hesitate to ask for help whenever you face a difficult situation or have a problem. Please feel free to reach out!

My colleagues and I work wholeheartedly for volunteers to address many issues, including cultural differences. The accommodations and the organizations where you will volunteer are very safe and verified. However, please do not come with overly high expectations about Cambodia.Through this program you will make friends with new volunteers and won't feel lonely. It's best to come with an open mind!

    Accommodation

During the project period, you will stay with other volunteer participants in a guesthouse-style volunteer accommodation. At the volunteer accommodation, you can enjoy communal life while living with friends from various nationalities.

The accommodation is run and managed directly by a local partner and is located in the city, so you can live safely. Rooms are typically shared by up to three people on average, and each room is equipped with a private bathroom, air conditioning, and basic furniture. The common areas include tables, chairs, a balcony, and other rest facilities where you can relax or spend time with friends after activities in the evenings or on weekends.

Regarding meals, at a designateddining hall, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are providedYou can choose your preferred menu, and lunch can be packed as a takeaway. Breakfast is usually simple—bread, eggs, fruit, and tea—while lunch and dinner offer a variety of dishes such as fried rice, noodles, curry, and meat dishes. The accommodation is located in central Phnom Penh, making it convenient to participate in the project on weekdays and sightsee the surrounding area on weekends. It takes about 20 minutes on foot to the activity organization and about 10 minutes by tuk-tuk, Cambodia's local transport (one-way fare is roughly expected to be around 2 USD).

Shared room (3–5 people) / private bathroom (hot water available) / three meals a day (breakfast/lunch/dinner) provided / air conditioning / Wi-Fi provided

*Cambodia is typically hottest from March to May, and availability tends to fill up quickly between July and August.

*Travel time to the activity organization may vary depending on traffic conditions.

*The photos above are examples for reference; room layouts and furniture may vary depending on the time of participation and local circumstances.

Cambodia's transportation infrastructure is weak, and public transit systems like city buses or subways are not well developed. The main means of transport in Cambodia are motorcycle taxis (riding on the back of a motorcycle) and tuk-tuks, three-wheeled vehicles adapted from motorcycles. Motorcycle taxis are very dangerous in terms of safety. Therefore, even if it costs a bit more, we recommend using tuk-tuks for safety.Unlike conventional taxis, tuk-tuk fares are not fixed and are negotiated with the driver each time; recently, it has become common to book and pay for tuk-tuks using mobile apps.

Typical one-way fares start at around 2 USD, but costs vary widely depending on distance, time of day, number of passengers, etc. You may be surprised by Cambodia's unfamiliar transport system at first, but if you understand the relatively limited transportation and follow local customs, you will be able to enjoy your life in Cambodia even more!

    Region:Cambodia, Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is the country's largest city and its center. Travelers from around the world visit Phnom Penh to experience the exotic atmosphere and charm of Southeast Asia. It is full of diverse cultures and traditions, and you can enjoy delicious food, spectacular sights, and shopping to your heart's content. Recommended destinations

    01 Apsara Dance

The Apsara dance is a form of Khmer traditional dance; similar traditional dances can be found in neighboring Southeast Asian countries. However, the Apsara dance, characterized by slow and graceful movements, is uniquely Cambodian. It is such an important tradition that Apsara dancers are carved in bas-relief at Angkor Wat. Many restaurants offer dinner shows featuring the Apsara dance, so if you want to experience authentic Cambodia, be sure to attend one.

02 Phnom Penh Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda

This historic site lets you experience the height of the Khmer civilization's splendor and beauty. It is also where the king actually resides, and the royal palace (except for the king's private residence) is open to the public, making it a popular attraction. You can enjoy the radiant heritage of the Cambodian monarchy, from silver tiles to a Buddha statue carved from emeralds and golden sculptures.

    03 Angkor Wat

If there is one attraction that visitors to Cambodia must see, it is Angkor Wat. As an archaeological treasure of great value, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although much of it was damaged by war and looting, Angkor Wat still retains a majestic beauty—take your time wandering through it. You will be able to feel the traces of its long history.
